The Carpenters
Some of you younger folks only know the Carpenter songs because they have become elevator music, or piped into the speakers at your local grocery store alongside other 70's greats.
Karen had a unique voice/range that has not been duplicated to this day.
Yeah, some of the Carpenter songs were cheesy but did you know Karen was a drummer long before she was a singer?
And a dang fine one at that.
Check this out, it gets better and better as the video goes on.

Re: The Carpenters
Karen had an incredible voice. Though their style was was not en vogue at the time, they still were able to produce an admirable amount of hits.

Re: The Carpenters
I have always had a soft spot for Karen Carpenter's voice. "Rainy Days and Mondays" was one of my first favorite pop songs.

Re: The Carpenters
My folks had their albums when I was a kid. I grew up listening to The Carpenters and John Denver mostly.
I had no idea she could drum like that though, very impressive.

Re: The Carpenters
My parents use to listen to them all the time. I really learned to appreciate the songs.
Whenever I hear some of the songs, it brings back some great memories of growing up in the 70' early 80's.
Very tragic death for Karen!

Re: The Carpenters
I have always loved easy listening music. Carpenters are a part of that list. Loved their stuff. Horrible death.

Re: The Carpenters
Their CD has been playing in my vehicle for the last month. Good listening during the long drives to and from fishing. My wife and I love their songs, and we're both under 40 years old.
Very sad and tragic death for Karen.

Re: The Carpenters
I think I've watched nearly every video of them on the tube. I Remember them well as a kid on tv. Great old music in my book.

Re: The Carpenters
Thanks for posting
I never knew of her talents as a drummer.
I have always been a big fan of drum solo's.
When I was a Wee Lad back in the mid 1950's My father bought me some drum lessons from a fellow in downtown Portland who's name I have forgotten. Apparently I was a bit to young as when he showed me the whip he had hanging on the wall and told me that is what he used on the kid's that didn't practice, I quit.
Big mistake on my part.

Re: The Carpenters
She had a remarkable voice, tragic death. The arrangement of their songs was very good too, almost a lost art now with digital.
I also remember seeing them perform "Sing" on Sesame Street.

Re: The Carpenters
I always like her voice and especially the song, Something To Believe, or whatever it was. She also had a great body till she went on the Slimfast diet.
