Default Pilar's Slaughter on the Salt(pics)

All I can saw is AWESOME!!!! Today I got to ride out on the Pilar. Our plan was to jig fresh bait in the bay and then out to try our hand at a little Coho/King fishing. We ended up having a geat day on the salt. "Just_learning" Joined us today as well and a good time was had by all. I'm not great at telling stories but today I saw Pilar do something only a well salted skipper could do....... It was great, I will let him tell the story. Here are some pics from our day on the Salt.... THANKS JOHN

Pilar, that is the ugliest potbellied Coho I ever saw! I can tell you missed the tuna splatter by the look of your jeans!

Yea, and what about those endangered "red snappers"? Uh, canary bass!

That wasn't a coho crabbait. It was a fall tule!

Good job guys!

Thanks for the report and awesome pics bro

I haven't had the pleasure of fishing out of the mighty Pilar with the fish slaying skipper yet but will jump on the next open seat when he offers. We had a good day yesterday out of Newport for the salmon. See ya on the water...

Rainrshine - you sure have my curiosity up. Was it the handlined salmon?

We had some multiple hook ups and I've done/seen that before but Friday something kind of weird happened ....

We got in a foul up between a long set back downrigger and the mooching lead setup we ran in the middle. Because of the setback, there was alot of line still in the water when the tangle came to the boat. As RainRshine worked the knots out I saw the line in the water and absentmindedly started to hand over hand it to the boat. I thought about the erratic action I could feel from the flasher and thought out loud "I wonder if I could handline a salmon, we do it to TUNA!".

There was a light Tick! on the line ... i slowed the retreive and got a tug, tug ...TUG, headshake, shake ... wooohooooo!!!!!

Mono is slippery and it will cut you. I worked the fish to the boat taking turns of line around my hands. It was a native coho and we released it.

My crew was stunned. Well .... so was I.

The commercials handline them all the time. Just use a light touch and "gloves"!
