Default Progress on update--

Well. I have interviewed several people for the job of moving ifish to Threads. Finally found our guy! His name is Allen and he's very good at what he does. Probably has done more Classic to Threads conversions than anyone.
I have to buy a license for Threads. When I do that, my Classic license is no longer good. So, I have to be ready to go when I do that.

We are going to install Threads. Let the moderators and admin have at it for a week or so, so that we get the feel of it, and are able to help you, with your problems... or try!

Then, we are adding a new picture upload. It's called Photopost I'm not sure if it comes with Threads, or I have to order it separately. I think I do have to order it, too. Marty, at Steelheader.net has it. He pretty much pioneered the fishing group over there, in Threads and the new photo application. You can see his in action, here. Lookin good, Marty!

I think he is going to call us a copy cat. We are, but only because we HAVE to!

Anyhow, things are progressing, and I thought I would give you an update. The first phase of the mods getting a chance at it, will happen soon. I might have a couple members head on over there, too, so that we can all play with the new program. Maybe I'll choose Thumper, and give him a step by step tutorial! I am worried about Thump!

So, there you have it. Hold my hannie, k?

Hey Jennie,
Well, let's hope this isn't too painful. Are the two going to run parallel for while so the admins can play with it while the existing board is still up or am I going to have to plan for a week of ifish withdrawals?
Sounds like you've got it covered with a competent professional. Let me know if I can help out in any way.

I got it approved by infopop so that I can run both boards for up to two weeks while we sift through problems. Ifish down time will be kept to a minimum. Two to four hours tops, (HOPEFULLY!) and we will do it at a time when Ifish is not usually busy. May have to do an all nighter.
After we install, I am going to hire a guy to do a MySQL server tweak, so that things run very efficiently and fast.
Then, I have to hire a design and graphics sort, to make ifish look like ifish.
So, first... we buy a Threads license and a photopost license.
Then, we install and transfer the info from Classic to Threads.
Open the new Threads to admins and mods and a select few members for trial, while we install headers and footers, and appropriate sponsors to each board. (My nightmare is forgetting one!) The other board (Classic) will be running for all of you.
Then, before the grand opening, I have to change all links from the old board, to the new, on about 1000 pages! Yikes! There will be a redirect for those I miss, and I'd appreciate anyone writing in to tell me from where it came, so I can change that.
I will work hand in hand with Allen to work out any bugs and JC to do any graphics and design help.
Then, we open the new Threads, have a team to help those that are lost, while I begin to work on server load, and tweaking the server with the other consultants. I can't believe we are finally DOING this.
Tell me it's all a nightmare, OK?
I'm excited, but at the same time.... a little nervous!
Oh-- I'll have to close the old picture upload, too, so you will all have to save your avatars, and re upload them, when the time comes. Do this NOW, so you don't lose anything. Save it to your hard disk before we delete everything!
