The most prevalent bird is scaup, so you may only get one... Also be very careful with the tides. I went out there a few years ago with a so-called expert on the area and we had to sit out a stranded boat until way after dark.

I did with a bunch of other people mid week, shot a few teal and a mallard but I think it's getting pounded right now. I think I'll save the money and hunt local.

We got to where we wanted to hunt and had another group set up less than 100 yards from us, we flashed them to let them know we were there and the still set up right by us. All morning we didn't even think about shooting that way, they were for sure in pellet range.

And they call way to much and sounded like crap to boot, the one mallard we did get was headed to them and they were wailing on the call and the bird flared away right to us. Next time these other screw offs can get there earlier than I, I won't be nice next time.

It can be a little bit of combat hunting down there, but it sure is fun when you get out on the flats and get alot of different types of duck. When Deer and Elk season is going it seems to thin out the guy's that don't have a clue about hunting ethics. But then again theres always someone idiot who doesn't have a clue!

That area is great for Sawbills and Bluebills in the late season especially with an early smelt run in January

.. It is also extremely shallow and since it is the windward shore, gets HAMMERED with waves in the shallows.

I hunted a few years back with a buddy, We had a 40 lb river anchor off the stern and another 30 lbs off the bow..

The wind blew us and both anchors into the brush and grasses...

I have had about 4 experiences on the Lower river which could have been tragic.

3 of them were near the area you are referring to.

There is no doubt you must stay alert and it's a good Idea to have a gps in the boat and a radio so you can call the coast gaurd in case you get in trouble. If you don't know the tides and area I don't think its a good Idea to hunt... We've almost ended up in the Columbia river in a small jon boat because of the fog thank god we turned the gps on!
