Default Friday Newport Fishers? .. Y\'on to?

Looks like I can have the day off Friday. So my dilemma is do I run down and try to fish Friday or just dink around with the boat and some herring?

I would need some help on the boat to fish Salmon. Does anyone want to fish with me Friday out of Newport? If we left tonight, we have accomodations. Or we can drive down at OMG in the morning.

Either another boat, able bodied seaman or saltwater curious pup need respond.

Thanking you in advance.

John I'll be down that way sometime in the afternoon/early evening on Friday. Should I meet you in Newport at the marina or up at Bluebeast's place on Friday?
I'd be more than happy to get jiggy with some herring on Friday if you'd like some help. I have a whole bunch of the nice mylar sabiki type set-ups my Brutha'.
If we get into tuna? I'll have to show you the new fashionable TUNA! hat. It's all the rage in Paris these days. Yeah, Um-hm. You can transform yourself from mild mannered Tuna! fisherman into TUNA-HEAD-MAN! Tuh-Dah! All without requiring a phone booth.
Enough to scare the red out of raw meat!

Ragnar, I am planning to be off the water and at the cabin by afternoon. I think the big blow will kick us off the drink by mid day. If you come down by 101 just stop by the cabin first. If not there then I am at the S. Beach Marina cleaning some huge salmon.

Ok, if we can get out to Salmon tomorrow, Rainrshine and Just_learning will be joining me.

Sorry about the short notice but this came together at the last minute.

If you're taking the day off to go fishing then so am I. It only took one call and I've got a full boat.

I'll look for you at the dock or catch you on the radio, will be monitoring vhf 16 & 78. Is the boat named Pilar also, or was it Jamaica?

Will probably head out about 290-300 degrees to depth of 190-200, slammed them the past few weekends and it makes for a better ride back to port.

Catch you there and look forward to meeting you. Best of luck!

Hey, Bucky, I won't be in a huge hurry to head out at first light. We will jig some herring and then head out.

The boat is named 'Pilar'. I will be at the ramp from 0600 to 0630. Over by the stairs to the Rogue Pub.

What does your boat look like?

Tell us more about fishing in 190 ft of water. Are you fishing on structure? Using Downriggers? Bait or hardware?

Salmon fishing is not rocket science but I forget these things.

Anyone thinking about chasing tuna after slamming the salmon early Friday morning? Or is the water just too cold right now?

Gear's on board just in case its a nice flat day.

Bucky, I won't load up for TUNA! Friday on purpose. It's just too tempting. The afternoon blow thing is nothing to mess with. If we can get out and get some Salmon we should be happy with that.

Pilar,

Boat is a 24' Sea Ray cuddy, white with gray canvas, says "Badger" and has little "Bucky" on both sides, Raytheon radar dome, 150 Merc outboard, rod holders up top.... that should do it.

We've been hammering them in 180-235' of water (varies day by day), at depths ranging ranging from 20-80 feet. Been using herring (green and blue, but would love some fresh ones) with hoochies stacked on downriggers between 55-80 feet mostly, but also getting some up top running divers with dodgers (mostly silvers up high).

I'd give you coordinates but the GPS is on the boat and chances are they'll change a bit this week. Look for schools of fish around the 60' mark or give me a hollar on ch. 78 and I'll let you know how we're doing.

Gotta pack and head towards Neport. Tight lines!
Adios

Pilar,

Unfortunately plans have suddenly changed and I won't be able to fish on Friday (tomorrow). Same time Saturday though.

I wasn't marking many waypoints for the salmon last week on my portable GPS, but try this if you don't have anything elst to start with. We caught at least a couple there on the 19th:

N 44 36.499'
W 124 10.230'

Best of luck tomorrow, and leave some for the rest of us. Hope to run into you on Saturday.

John,
I wish I could make it Friday but I can't. I just got a good report from a very reliable source for Salmon. This is the same area I have been hammering them the past two weeks. Run out about 5 miles west straight out from the whistle and drop your gear. I like 190 to 220 depth range. If you decide to jig up some bait, grab me a few would ya? I'll hook up with you guys at dock time Saturday morning.
