Default Edwing - This is All I Need! (pics)

This is all I need.........

Yep, Ed, just set my seat on a chunk of plywood and lean my GPS against the empty window frame and I am ready to go! Oh, and I could use a throttle and I'm all set! Yeah, and a keyswitch and I'm outahere!

Oh yeah, could ya put that spinner thingee on there? Maybe weld a few castors on the bottom? Yeah, lets get her WET!

Ok, maybe I am getting a little impatient. Progress is definitely being made. The swimstep and offshore bracket for the big motor (and the big motor) are in place. Rear deck is in with a fine hatch and the batteries are installed. Fuel cell is in place and complete with sending unit.

Glovebox is in and the steering column. We set the seat in so that we could position the rest of the toys for optimum use. Work is well underway on the rear station. Anchor bracket system is in place.

Still need:

Rails fore and aft.
Rail over the cabin and rocket launchers.
Interior floor.
Furnace installed.
Seats installed.
Throttle/shifter install fore and aft.
Kicker motor and kicker bracket.
Windows.
Jewelry installed.

We are getting close. Ed says they will work all weekend.

The saga continues!

S-s-sput...s-s-sputter...gasp...gurgle....

Breathe deeply, Jim, slow, even breaths. You'll be fine. Deep breaths. That's right.

I probably shouldn't go to work tomorrow. No, better not. Better go up to....er....uh...my doctor. Yes, that's it. A doctor's appointment. West Nile virus. Columbia River strain. Chinook Washington. Doctor Ed.

Oh my....

Hey Crabbait,

How big is your new toy.....eerrr...I mean new boat? I remember Ed advertised in the BoatTrader for awhile and from the pictures, looks to be a pretty nice boat. Are they a good rough water boat, do they ride nice and dry?

I can relate to your pain, waiting for all those pieces to come together. Hang in there, it'll pass soon enough.

This also reminds me of something a person at work told me while I was waiting on my boat.

He said, you know what the 2nd most exciting event is in life? I said no, ....maybe getting married? Nope he replied, buying a new boat. Then he asked if I knew what the #1 most important event was in life. Again I didn't know, ....maybe having children? Nope he replied, it's when you sell the boat.

Well, I've been on both sides of this scenario. And I'm here to tell you, buying a boat is WAY more fun then selling a boat. I felt like crying watching my ex-boat disappear down the road.

Certainly hope your boat gives you years and years of reliable service and loads of good memories.

Enjoy the suspence, it's not every day you get to build a new boat.

have fun,

Gregg

Greg - She is 23'x 8', nose to transom plus the step.

You might want to sit down for this next part.....I don't know how they ride. I have never seen one on the water. When I ordered the boat, I had never seen one, period.

This is not my first boat, however. The construction techniques and material say a lot for the boat. The hull is 1/4" aluminum (keel to the top of the gunwale). It has four welded chambers below decks, no bilge, no bilge pumps, and the cockpit (rear deck where the carkin' gets done) is built above the waterline with large rear scuppers. When water pours in, it pours right back out.

When you look at the lines of the boat you will notice that just about everything is a compound curve. It reminds me of the Calkins "Bartender" built in the sixties (a double-ender and still one of the most seaworthy designs, although a little dated nowadays).

The real bottom line is this: About a year ago, Pilar, Puffin, Skein and I stood around talking boats and tuna at the last ifishstock. Puffin owns a 21' Edwing softop with a 130hp Honda. Pilar was very impressed with the seaworthiness of the Edwing design. Skein and I both ordered boats last winter, a decision based as much on the recommendation of ifishers we trust as on anything else.

I decided to add two feet to the length and dramatically increase the fuel cel size (estimated at 105gal). Skein followed suit and the boats have been nearly identical since.

You only get to do this once. Sometimes ya gotta dare to dance the tides!

I've got an extra one of them spinny things if he is out.

This is cool, watching your boat being built. Keep the pics coming!

I've never been on these boats either but I have seen Puffin at sea on several occassions. His seems to ride great.

I envy you.

The photo is disturbing  , to say the least.
Otherwise, dam nice boat CB and Skein.
Gotta love a selfbailer. My next craft will definitely include this feature. What degree V fore and aft?

That "thing" is a rubber glove. You miss the full "effect" since you cannot see the fingers. Definitely a picture to save for the grandkids!

As to the Vee, I can't recall....19 degrees I believe. I will ask Ed. here is a picture I posted a couple of weeks ago. It is a pretty aggressive bow.

I bet you have more deadrise than 19. Mine is 35 forward tapering to a 14 aft. I betcha you are in the same neighborhood, if not more.

I didn't realize you had sealed chambers. I work with a guy who has an ACB. Very salty boat.

I love those old Bartenders. There was a great article in Woodenboat a while back about the boats and the guy who built them.

Keep the pics coming.

Joe
