As soon as I find that TDi Jetta I've been looking for, I'll help inch it up a little more...
Must be all those women getting pregnant just to put German Engineering in their driveway...

No it's probably all the husbands thinking about Brooke Shields getting those women pregnant.
I was surprised to see Stallone driving a VW on one of the entertainment shows a couple of nights ago. Maybe he's thinking of Brooke too but he's old enough to be her dad.

Re: Can you believe VW?!!
I just don't see what drove that increase. Friends who have purchased a variety of VW models in the last year have been uniformly disappointed.

Re: Can you believe VW?!!
Panicked Traders Take VW Shares on a Wild Ride
Quote:
That soaring value reflected engineering of a financial, rather than automotive, sort. It came as stock traders scrambled when Porsche, a rival seeking to build one of Europe’s great car dynasties, revealed it had increased its holdings in VW, giving it an economic stake equal to about 75 percent of the company’s voting shares.
The rise appears to have come from a short squeeze of historic proportions, as speculators who had borrowed the stock and sold it scrambled to buy shares. Many had expected the share price to fall after Porsche gained control and stopped buying shares.
Porsche said it made the announcement to give investors who sold the stock short “the opportunity to close their positions unhurriedly and without bigger risk.”
The opposite happened. The risk soared, and the short sellers were forced to act quickly.
|
The traders have become full-on addicts and should be treated as such. They were given ample warning to act prudently and instead chose to pursue greed and irrationally generated a "market value greater than Apple, Philip Morris and Intel combined." Expect this one to crash hard.

Agreed.
If a person bought nothing but Honda cars, and Toyota trucks, they'd have a lot less to worry about, less to complain about, and more long term money in their pockets.

Re: Can you believe VW?!!
I get a big kick out of the Brooke Shields ads. Talking about German engineering when the van is a re-badged Chrysler Town and Country with a updated interior.

We're happy with our Fords, chevy, pontiac and the Mitsubishi. Most of the work is oil changes and cleaning with some tires and brake pads once in a while, and the parts are cheap. They have improved a lot, mostly because they are trying to compete with the Japanese.
I wish the domestic outfits would become world leaders again, really its sad.
The German regulators are looking into possible insider trading, I hope they get a firing squad.
Brooke is aging pretty gracefully(43), I like the ads, kinda cute. The last bit of German engineering I had was my '72 Pinto engine. Funny, no one got pregnant trying to ride in that one.

We may want to enjoy it while it lasts since GM and Chrysler will be synonymous and Fords won't exist.

Re: Can you believe VW?!!
Funny, I received a notice of a class action law suit concerning my VW Passat yesterday. This on top of taking it in on a recall notice (same issue) and being told that at 150k I basically need to replace most of the front suspension components to the tune of $1k. Aside from a late 60's VW, this IS the last one I'll buy.

Re: Can you believe VW?!!
The European union is looking into stock price manipulation on the VW stocks. I would be VERY careful about that stock.
