Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
I wouldn't normally do this, but feel that the folks down in the Central Ca. coast have done a very good job and deserve some recognition. I have been a member of the BATC since 1997, and this is where I first learned to fish for tuna. It was someone there who posted the link to ifish that got me involved here.
The guide below is very well written, in simple and clear language. While it does not go into as much detail (in some areas) as you might find here at ifish, the guide covers a lot of good useful information you might not find elsewhere. At the bottom are some safety tips as well, that all tuna fishers should read.

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
Written by the late Bat Batsford, the guy who is responsible for turning me on to tuna fishing.
Good info! I reccomend all newbies commit it to memory.

Yes, his passing was a great loss to the sport of Tuna Fishing. He did a very good job of writing that guide, and I still refer to it at least annually.

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
Hi Nancy,
Now why would you "not normally do this"? With all of the interest generated by the great tuna fishing we are currently having, that was a great idea to post the link to the small boaters guide, I especially like the rules for safe boating section.
I was the one that posted the link to ifish.net on the Bay Area Tuna Club site. When I saw you posting from Depoe Bay, I figured you would want to chat with folks closer to home. Apparently, the moniker "Nofish" was taken so I have assumed a false identity (RBob) on that site. I see now several of the guys that post from extreme northern California and southern Oregon are now also using ifish.
I think Bat's site is great, but there is definately a void that was created when he passed. I really like the Salty Dogs group...seems like a great bunch of folks and for me, the coverage is much closer to home. Hope to head back to Depoe as soon as the ocean settles. Cheers...Bob

Thanks, Nancy
The information is now in my memory banks. Great advise for all boaters.

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
Bob - Ahh ok. I agree the article from Bat is great and very good reading for anyone interested in chasing tuna. That's why I posted it. What I meant about not 'normally doing this' was referring to another 'tuna' sites article without specific 'consent' to link to them.
I do greatly appreciate you linking to ifish for me. As you have probably figured out, I've made myself right at home here.

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
Does anybody know how Bat died? After I saw that he died I did a search in the Bay area newspapers and came up empty.

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
Honestly I don't recall. I stroke, or heart attack if I'm not mistaken. :depressed:

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
Thanks Nancy!
You have made yourself at home here....and it is great! You have been a great addition to both the board and to the fishing experience for many. Hope to have you here for a very long time.

Re: Albacore Guide for Private Boaters
My understanding is that Bat died from a massive heart attack. Very sudden, very sad.
