Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
Hi, I will be fishing out of Newport, Saturday with Jen (Ocean Blue) and Troy (Ragnar). Our tentative float plan is to cross the bar as soon as it is safe to do so and pursue Salmon near 'Jon's King' which is inside and north of the Rockpile. I may also be fishing Friday for herring and maybe even a little crabbing if that makes sense.
If by some miracle we get a glass ocean Saturday we might consider a jaunt to the neighborhood of '61 Degrees' and we will probably just troll that way as we hit some fish North of the pile and about that far out on Julie Rose III last Saturday.
I am guessing here but I believe we will have to quit by noon for wind. So return by 13:30 or 16:00 latest. I am planning for 100 miles total if TUNA! occurs and burning 25 or 30 gallons of fuel.
Does this match any of you? I would like to run with another boat if at all possible and offer my services as wingman to any interested parties.
I will modify my plan if necessary to get a running mate.
Thanking you in advance .......
I have some cool waypoints for the North Rockpile I am willing to share ........

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
John,
I have been on fire lately for the salmon but I have only been going about 7 miles out. I am running a course on my GPS as I type and have found we will be on plane burning right through the area on the way to the North end of the pile. We could always slow down and throw out a couple RSK's on the way out. I am new to this mooching thing for the pile. It's sounds like the way to go for the nooks and bottom fish. I am all over hooking a couple of butts to release in the process as well. Let's cross our fingers and hope the wind doesn't blow for Saturday. I will be in the parking getting prepped around 5:20 ish or so. I'll look for you and follow you out.
If you find another boat that want's to do the tuna thing after we reak carnage at the pile, don't feel you have to stay with me. I have put a little experience under my belt the last couple of months and have no problem making my way back to port from the pile. With the NW wind and NW swell, it shouldn't be that bumpy of a ride back.
503-843-9786. I work swing but am usually around the house until 2:00 P.M. or so. The machine is always home.
I look forward to the slaughter,
Chris

Wahoooo! Docktime 0600! That means I get more than 3 hours of sleep Friday night/Sat morning.
Sorry. It's the little things that get me all rev'd up.
John? Am I playing skipper again?

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
Johnboy, I may well have Sea Lion down there. If I find a place to store her and we can get her put away by say 1300 then I am your man.
I may need a crew member or two...
Stay tuned...

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
I am all over the pile part for salmon but will probably be a little more reserved for the tuna. As of right now I will only be able to carry 42 gallons of fuel and in my boat, that probably isn't enough to hang with you until 1600 hours. We will also be in the water at first light taking a look see at the bar conditions waiting to run. I can run with you guys to the pile.

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
Thanks Chris. I am not married to the TUNA! part but it is a possibility. We could give the Salmon hell and as a team maybe find them sooner. The post Salmon bottom fish thing sounds good. Oh, I have 'Puffins' waypoint for the big as the boat Halibut. Maybe we should test that one out for the next Halibut days .... Hmmmm. Not far from 'Jon's King'.
I have wanted to fish with you Tacklebuster, for some time now. I am looking forward to doing so this Saturday.

Dock time for me will be about 0600. The bar should be clear by 0700.
Chris you have some recent salmonoid experience. Any hunting ground location recommendations based on your recent exploits?

Mr. F! I thought you had to work on Sat!? What? You're going to convince them that spending 2 months abroad ought to allow you some liberties?

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
'Puffin' is in as well. I expect he will head west at some point to get some tuna.
CDJ yeah, wingman is a dumb term, gotta be a better one. I think we are a boat team maybe.
What do you guys think about the forecast?

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
6 and 3 for Saturday
If the winds lay down Friday night and the 6 is only 4 or 5, sounds doable for me. I will have to be heading back to port before the 20kn NW start to blow. Anyone have a real time condition today?

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
Yes, the forecast is beginning to do the same thing as last weekend ... and we know how that turned out.
Bring your tuna carking gloves, Ragnar and some big empty coolers, you might need them.

Re: Newport Salmon boat ... seeking wingman
I'd be interested. Should be putting in at South Beach about 5:30 on Fri and Sat., leaving port about 6:00. "Badger" is a 24' Sea Ray, white with gray vinyl, will be monitoring 68 & 78.
Give us a hollar cause this new member doesn't know many ifish members yet. Pilar, what's your boat?
