Default Newport Salmon Saturday Anyone?

The tentative plan is to hit the bar at daylight and chasing some Salmon. I know this doesn't strike up much interest in the wiley old dogs that only bear their teeth at Tuna but for us pups it's enough to get our tails wagging. Anyone want to run along? You up for another trip WaterDog

After a limit of Salmon, a little sea bassin could end the day.

Hi Chris. I'm going to be in Seattle on Saturday, but am trying to get a crew together for Sunday a.m. Are you staying the weekend? I plan on launching around 6:30 Sunday morning from South beach.

My plan is to be there Sunday. Probably won't hit the dock until 0700 due to a long day BBq'ing on Saturday.

Tacklebuster, I am considering the Rockpile for Saturday. It looks like a weather crap shoot at this point.

If by some miracle it does not blow maybe some light TUNA! chasing by Nelsons island would be possible. We got some on the Julie Rose III about 18 miles NW of Newport Saturday in clear green 60 degree water. They were jumping and we stopped to fish.

Friday is also a possibility for a herring festival. I am out of Yaquina herring.

Joe- I'll be there Sunday as well. If you can't get a crew, you are welcome to ride with me. My sled isn't as heavy duty as yours but she sure catches fish I plan on hitting the bar around daylight, let's touch bases before hand and hit the fishing grounds together.

John- I was planning an early morning pile run on Saturday for a combo trip. If the winds do not decide to breath and the swell is comfortable, the tuna thing isn't out of the question if we are talking 18 miles. I'll look for you guys.

I'll be out there Sat and Sun, weather permitting. You guys notice the water temp is falling like a stone? The buoy at Stonewall Banks is already at 50.

Planning on giving Newport a try for the first time this year on Saturday. Sounds as though everyone is doing pretty well, so though I would give it a try. Plan on being on the water at about 0600, so give me a holler if you see me, I will be in the red Alumaweld Intruder with twin Hondas.

Cool, the only caution I would offer is the 0630 low tide and it is a minus. So that means watch the bar because you will be at the end of the ebb tide on a big push. We are talking Newport so the bar is of minimal concern but it is a bar nonetheless.

The cooler water will sharpen the temperature break. I think this helps to concentrate the TUNA! along that edge. It has in the past anyway.

TB,

I can't this weekend (lots of honey do's to make up for after last weekend...) I really think we got spoiled last weekend with the fish in tight to the beach and on a fantastic bite. I have a feeling the NNW winds that have been blowing hard since Sunday night have probably cooled the ocean off and forced the fish much further out than they were last weekend.

Good Luck and let us know how you do.

You guys are killing me. I have to go up to Seattle to Diver's Fair. USIA has a booth there and each year sell 100-150 diving suits...so work calls. But NEXT week the Triple whamey Halibut then chase Tuna and finish with a Salmon Troll.

Good luck this week end. And Don't be suprised if the bar gets closed for a short while; those fish aren't going anywhere.

Thanks for the offer, Chris, but I've got a crew. We won't hit the water at daylight as that would mean a bar crossing near the peak of the ebb which I won't do - even at Newport! I'm thinking leaving Southbeach around 6:30. We'll have a guy in a wheelchair on board so sometimes it goes a little slow getting out. Email me your cel phone number again and I'll email you mine so we can talk. Which radio channel will you be on?

See you this weekend.

Hey there TB. I am thinking me and three freinds might just give it a whirl. With the tide thing what do you think the best time to cross will be? We are fresh back from a week of solid salmon fishing and can't shake the fever so were are up and ready. So drop me some e-mqil if you like. I travel with a CB on channel 14. I am in a black weldcraft renegade.

Hope we can hook up for some salmon slammin...

Fish on!!

All this salmon speak has got me itchin. I may have to blow off the boat repair on the Tbird and take the sled on a run for the pile.

I may not have the parts I need anyway.

Skein, you and Janice ready for a last minute run if I'm shy parts? Even if I'm not shy parts. Heck there is always Sunday for repairs. I wouldn't want Fishplay to feel neglected; it hasn't been out of the shop for months.

I know we talked Tuna but it looks like you got that covered with Popeye next week.

Call me or shoot me an e-mail. I know your itchin too.

Fisher Price- I have a Weldcraft Renegade as well. Mine is a blue/green with a grey top that I hardly ever put on. I am going to plan on hitting the jaws early to take a look see. The last time I hit her on a minus tide before the ebb had subsided, the bar was nonexistant and not a factor. I would think by 7:00 am the bar should be fine for Saturday but I will be out there at sun rise to take a look see. Hook up with us and let's do some salmon slammin

Walleyed - On the ocean? Not unless it's slick as ice. At least not unless you've got a lot of experience on the ocean. I wouldn't recommend you trying to head out over the Newport bar this weekend. The wind has been blowing all week, and is still going to be over the weekend. Maybe not as hard, but unless you have a lot of salt experience, I wouldn't recommend you try it.

Okay guys I cannot stand all this talk about salmon slaughters and early departures. IF the tides are questionable, why not have everyone wait till 7 AM and then go out as a group. I could join you guys to chase a few fesh... 6 is just a little early for driving over from the valley.
