There is a long thin finger of cold water off Newport on the SST. appears to only be 10 miles wide but goes out a ways. Stonewall bouy was at 54 degrees this am. CR is still at 60 and change.

Tried to get a day of fishing in this week, before the ocean changed for the worse...too late. Went out of Newport and it was bumpy and uncomfortable to fish. Tried trolling for an hour and had 7 on with two natives and one hatchery to the boat. It just wasn't worth it (to me) I will wait until next week and see what happens. Now to the honey-do's.

PS The herring are thick in the bay and I got all I will need for salmon and halibut (except fresh) I have never seen them this thick. Water temps at 180 feet were about 48 degrees too.

WP- Did you go out of Newport? 48 degrees in 180 feet is pretty cold. The water must have turned from the weekend. We were hitting mid 50 degree water temps at 180 to 200 feet WNW of the jaws last weekend.
