Default Boat capsized near Astoria

Just heard a quick blurb on channel 8 news about a 20' boat capsizing near Astoria...Coast Guard involved in rescue, at least one dead I heard.

Didn't catch any of the real details though...briefly saw a map with Gearhart highlighted.

People really need to be cautious when the seas and wind are going like they are today. The forcast is not real favorable for going out in even a 20' boat.

I hope that all here from ifish are safe and well this evening, and pray for the families? of those lost this day.

I think, much like the large group of newbie fishermen we've been dealing with on the CR and Willy in the last few years because of lots of fish....we'll be seeing more of the same on Big Blue. :depressed: :depressed: Tuna close in, lot's of ocean coho and nooks to be caught, it's going to get worse, I'll bet.

This won't solve the solution but it might help..

How about start enforcing the boaters safety cards?? i have yet to be checked. And everyone else I know hasn't been checked either.

I was involved with the search for this guy and can tell you that he was not wearing a PFD , just another painfull lesson learned on the importance of wearing your PFD'S. You would think that after the garibaldi incident people would think twice about wearing one.

Lots of activity today on the VFH. A 30 footer got run over by a freighter under the Megler bridge. Boat lost in the fog somewhere south of the CR, boat lost power just inside of the south jetty and driffting towards it.
Heard the Sheriff talking to the CG about this one after the above. Not able to recover and the Heli's were up and out. Didn't here the outcome. This sounds bad. The ocean was actually much better today than it was yesterday according to the folks that wer out.
