Klick report.
No fish for me.
Floated Leidal to icehouse and it was a looooong float. Had to row a solid 2 hours to make it out by dark. There were several guides working the stretch but I dont think they were getting any either.
The water is low and I dragged bottom lots with my 16' cat. I dont know how the guide with the alum willie does it. At every tail out you see all the rocks covered with aluminum from past db's. There are several trees down also at some of the braids so watch out.
I swung flies all day without a bite, water was 43 degrees and clear. The Klick fustrates me and skunks me alot. I see that the guides all use indicator setups but I cant bring myself to give up swinging for them. Maybe one day i'll get one........
take care,
Chris

Re: Klick report.
Glad to see there is someone else out there who has had little (none) success swinging for steel on the Klick. In a previous life I received a guided trip with Dan Little. We gave it a go several Thanksgivings ago. Dan fished a weird fake-looking sand shrimp abomination he called Doctor Doom. Dan caught a nice native chrome hen on one while he was guiding me.
It is a really nice sized river to wade and fish. A bit skinny for a hard boat. One day I will catch a steelhead there, I hope.

Re: Klick report.
it amazes me the attention this river draws.. I love the river probably more than any other but it is simply not that good of a steelhead fishery. People should never be suprised by it's stubborness in giving up the few fish that it gets

I don't know about that. This is a hard river to get skunked on out of a boat if you know what you are doing. 43 degrees, change tactics, sink tips, buny leeches, fish the slots not the fishless runs. Nymph fish out of the boat;-)

I have had pretty consistant action on the Klick. I woudn't say that it is an easy river to fish. I have been fishing it for the last 6 years and there are runs that boot out fish regularly that I have never seen another person on. You gotta put in the time to find the fish.

Re: Klick report.
Yup, thats the answer- learn the river. This is my 1st year hitting it, and there is alot of potential holding water to weed through to find the fish. I'm not discouraged, but eager to get back to try again.
thank for all your help.

Re: Klick report.
I know this is a fly fishing site but I heard they were knocking em dead free drifting a black steelhead fly. There is a good stretch of fly water above the town (below the icehouse take out) where i see guys fly fishing all the time. I happen to be floating in my pontoon in that section and another guy and his wife in a DB and just about when I was going to pass him he hooks into a nice steelie. I asked what he was using and he said way above (below leidel) they hooked up with 5 or 6 steelhead the day before drifting flies. For what its worth. This was in late august. I thru them everything and nada. I learned a lesson for next time.

Re: Klick report.
Dead drifting flys seems to be the best way to aprouch the fish on the Kick. With low water I think the fish go deap or push up into the heads of runs. Dead drifting can get your fly down quick to the fish.
I like to swing flys and have been using a floater or a clear int tip when I fish here. I think next time I'm going to try to use heavyier tips and really try to get the fly down quick in the deep areas were before I was passing over.
thanks for the info.

Re: Klick report.
Hi guys! I fished the Klick for the first time a couple of days ago. Did a lot more exploring than fishing. It looks like a great river-lots of access for the bank-bound, especially if you don't mind walking. Is the icehouse that old, kind of mediterranian looking building with the windows all covered over with cement?

Yes, that is the "Ice House".
