Default Interphase Sonar?

Does anyone know about or has seen in operation the scaning sonar from Interphase. Do these really work? The idea interests me but I would like to talk to someone who has one or has seen one in operation before laying down the cash for another toy. Just casting to the "Fishin Wisdom pond" for information.

I have one, I think, it's the Probe model. I'll send you an email.

Soooo ....I was looking at the Interphase units too. Probably the Sea Scout ...any chance you can provide info/feedback or performance notes here? I'm wondering if it can:

- Help avoid running over submerged logs,
- Spot surface salmon and/or baitfish,
- Spot fish deeper
- Bottom depth and info

And do the above with quality and performance ...for $700+, I'd hope so, but it's hard to tell from the company's docs what their main focus is...

Thanks,
Brian

I have an old 1991 Interphase that was in my sled. They may have re-engineered the problem by now, but it did not last long out in the weather. I had it repaired twice due to water breaking the seal and shorting out the display. Finally swapped it out for the Lowrance X85. Other than breaking every 4 years or so, it worked fine.

My chief concern, believe it or not, is obstacle avoidance ...how good do you think the Interphase system is for that? I'm building a boat ( http://www.advantagecomposites.com/tongass ) that I will be outfitting with lots of fuel storage and an efficient motor ...expect to explore wild and wooly place between here, and in, SE Alaska. Since some locales may find me a long way from a dock, hitting deadheads is something I want to be prepared for. I've got a collision chamber going in, positive upright flotation going in, etcetera ...but would be highly interested in a system that lets me see obstacles before I 'find' them the hard way. I'll have a separate fish finder if I need to, but hmmmmmm....wonder how that Interphase system is for giving you adequate warning of floating debris?

Thanks,
Brian

I don't know if these forward/side scans have really come of age yet. A bud of mine was talked out of one when he bought his new boat (1996?) cause they just weren't that hot.
They've had some years to work on them since.

Hmm... I get Power Boat Reports but I don't remember them doing an evaluation/test of them.
Call Rogers Marine in Portland and talk to them about these units in general. I don't know if they carry Interphase but if anyone can give you the low down on forward looking sonar they can.

Not even the high end commercial units will pick up floating objects - eyeballs are the only devices that work

I have the Interphase Black Box transducer hooked to my onboard computer....Don't waste your money! At cruise speeds they don't work very well, and my sidescan quit working after the first year.
I have the Probe model in my Tolly, but thought the "new, state of the art" black box would be better.....NOT!
