I think you must be talking about Harrington Fishing Rods.

In the eary '60's, they were all the rage in LA.

I just bought one and I do not know what it was designed for Sturgeon/Deep sea or what it has a beefy grip and is a 2 piece rod the piece where they are fitted together has an o-ring on it and the tip has a pully instead of an eye. it has a real stiff base and is not at all stiff at the tip the tip also swivels. it says Harrington of Oxnard Ca. I looked up Harrington on the internet and found that he was a pioneer in Glass Rods and I bought it because I read some posts here a while back mentioning them. I bought it at a garage sale and stole it for resale but now that I did a little research I don't think I want to let it go. I just want to know what it was designed for. I know it is made after 1965 as it says made in Oxnard Ca. the model # is 201 any help appreciated

Gary, what I can tell you is that they make wonderful ocean salmon trolling rods. Certain models have a real slow taper. So when a big salmon hits, it bends all the way down into the handle & the hook is less likely to pull out. Good, thick glass too. The Harrington / Harnells were the absolute favorites for salmon trolling out of SF bay for decades.

The 201 was orignally from the factory a one piece rod, so someone made it a two piece along the way. Overall lenght 7' 6", butt dia. .825, tip dia. 7, overall weight 7 1/2, recommended max. line 10-30. Harrington/Harnell since 1945 made black tubular glass fishing rods.................Bobber Down

Gary, That rod is no good. Dangerous in fact!

I hear they can explode on even small fish.

You should sell it to me for what you paid for it and I'll dispose of it into my Boat.

The pole now is 8'5" long from tip to butt with a rope twine grip on a stained wood butt. with 4 eyes top being a swivel pully and two piece. if there was a rubber piece on the butt it is missing. all the eyes are wrapped with a gray/white wrap the bottom eye has a ceramic like inside and the rest appear to be steel. It is a nice looking rod. I assume it is a trolling rod then huh?

I just got an e-mail from Jean Harrington and she said that this pole was sold as a blank and was manufactured in 1959.
