Default Live report from Depoe Bay

Ya'know, I really think a lot of you guys just LIKE running out to the 61 spot, even if it means running over tons of hot tuna fishing!!

Once again, the Sea Jypzee scores on the Tuna bite for Saturday July 19th. We left Depoe Bay at 05:00 this morning, heading out on a great ocean, and a beautiful day to be on the water.

We cruised on out about 10 miles and tossed in the tuna gear. I honestly didn't expect to get into anything at that point, but wanted to demonstrate to my crew (a couple of friends from Portland) how to fish and what they need to be watching for.

We picked up the first single on a handline, at about 16-17 miles straight outta Depoe Bay. Lost that one out about 10' from the boat. Next hook-up was on a pole, and again was lost on the way in. Crew was a tuna virgin and he had never fished for much bigger than a trout, so I had to really show him how to handle things.

Wasn't long after that we hooked into a double on handlines, then next a Quad hook=up on all hand-lines. 44-52, and 124-30 were the approx area we were in. Got all those into the boat. My friends only wanted 8 fish, so we were nearly done. Once we cleared the quad, I got on the radio and found out most of the other ifishers were way out beyond us, so I gave them our numbers and went back to fishing.

Got the next two singles, and turned for home. Figured I'd troll a ways towards home to maybe pick up one or two more for good measure. Well, we hooked up into a double, then before we had them in, hooked up a couple more, and then one more...so here we were 5 over quota for the day, and just pulled the gear and ran for shore.

Final count - 13 tuna, 18-20 miles out from Depoe Bay. We were done and running for shore by 9am this morning. All fish were brought in on Hand Lines, primarily Mexican Flag color.

Sea Jypzee running with a crew of two more tomorrow morning. Heading out from Depoe Bay at 05:00 if anyone wants to buddy with us.

Yes,we must of ran over a lot of tuna.We did find some about 8 miles from the 61 spot but they were spotty,2 or 3 here and there and then we couldn't find any for a 1 1/2 hours. We just trolled west and finally found some more out around the 40 mile mark.Had a couple doubles & triples, finally count 21 in the boat.

gotta consider renaming that boat to Meat Hawk. You guys and Nancy continue to set the example for us valley boys that just dream of getting out far enough or gettting them in close enough for us to make a short run at 'em.

envious that I didn't buy a bigger boat and sorta glad I didn't cause it would have cost me more than just the additional bucks.

Keep the reports coming and one of these days I will run out a ways with you and then just settle for some salmon.

Good fishing tomorrow

Super job once again Nancy...Guess your work friends didn't want to double dip and get their salmon limit too huh?? Heck too many to clean anyways..Boy that's really neat getting em inside like that.....To get into fish one day is one thing but to do it in such a consistent manner as you do,,well that's faboulous..Only thing that can slow you down is that port engine..Good luck with it........
