Default Hot Shot Question

I've read the plug book by Mike Laverty and was interested in the hook changes he made. He made his changes on the 30 but the 35's I have purchased and the SE's have two sets of hooks that seem to be far enough back for a good hook set. Are the way that they make them Ok or should I put in a swivel and remove a hook to improve hook sets. Any info would be great thanks.

I was taking size 30 hot shots and setting the hook back with a swivel long before luhr jensen ever thought about it does it hook up better? that I cant tell you.

What I can tell you is if you pull back on the oars as soon as the rod folds you will hook them more solid then if you dont.

some times I fish hot shots right out of the box and some times I dont I have never been able to tell the difference in hook ups.

its all a matter of what you do once the rod folds in my opinion they catch fish either way.

RBF,
I have seen guys use side planers to get their hotshots out. I have used them before fishing off a point, right on the ouside of the eddy line. There is a group of dedicated fishermen that run them orr the Ashaka Bridge over the North Fork of the Clearwater. They get a few there, but it's pretty boring fishing (but a great way to get a tan if the weathers nice).
