Canners-HELP!
Anyone have a favorite type of pressure canner?
I need one and will take any input on size, gauge type, etc. Never used one except as a rice cooker and don't really know what to look for.

We have an all american and I give it 3 thumbs up.
No gasket, big, and easy to use.

Re: Canners-HELP!
Thanks for the quick replies . Sounds like I'll go for the All American if I can swing it, otherwise I'll be breaking down finally and buy that $5 lifetime 'membership'.
The important thing is that I'm prepped when I get back in with all thos loins.

Re: Canners-HELP!
i bought a 27 quart presto pressure cooker at bimart for $65.00 i think. i did 60 1/2 pint jars in two batches. using the crab/turkey propane burner. you just have to watch it real close. keep it between 12 and 15 psi. you will get the hang of it real quick. cook it outside if your doing tuna cuz it will stink up da house.. and momma won't love you for that. kb

Re: Canners-HELP!
Can you control the heat of a outdoor crabcooker type gas burner closely enough to pressure cook??

Re: Canners-HELP!
JCB, We own a pretty typical (I think) Presto Deluxe Canner. You can stack 7 quart jars on the bottom or two layers of 7 pint-sized jars. It has been a great canner for us.
Good Luck! Are you planning on canning any "fish"?

Re: Canners-HELP!
Jimmy, I have an All American. Refer to:
web page
these have thick aluminum walls, Heavy duty hardware, and no gaskets to leak. I just love mine. Yes a little more spendy than the "Presto" variety you get at Bi Mart, but these will last a very long time, and I don't have to worry about all the hassle & time loss from a botched job when a gasket leaks (which they usually do eventually).

Re: Canners-HELP!
TR - YES! Outdoors is the ONLY way we can.
Mark Mc - we use a couple of prestos. No prob with gaskets. A liberal application of glycerin on the seal (once removed from the lid) rubbed in with a paper towel makes a nice seal - even if the seal is starting to look dried out and cracked. Treat the canner well and it will serve you well for years.
