i am sorry to hear about that, i would like to think my stuff is safe in my safe but maybe not?

This is a sad daily occurrence.

You can be the the best asset to this investigation. Police take the reports, enter the serial numbers into LEDS/NCIC and if they have any active leads they investigate. Otherwise the report is placed inactive and they don't do any more investigating. Sad state of budgets vs. workload.

You can check craigslist, pawn shops and other local resources for the guns. Pawn shops are required to check the serial numbers although some don't. Keep checking. Keep shopping. Go into pawn shops and tell them you are looking for a deal on a (insert a unique gun stolen here). Don't tell them you had one stolen. That way if they are reputable, they will tell you about it, if they are not, they will call you when one comes in.

Be careful not to be Joe Friday. Any suspicion and you have lost any ground you might have gained. Once the firearms are located DO NOT CONTACT THEM YOURSELF!!! Call the police and let them deal with it.

Just a tip. If it works, great...if not, all you are out is your time. I have recovered guns stolen more than 10 years before.

This is an unfortunate reminder for the rest of us to update our records, consider home security improvements, and evaluate our firearm storage.

I also hate to suggest this, but look to those who know your home, have been in your home, inspected your home, etc.

A friends home was burglarized a few years back by what was later determined to be someone whom had stopped by during a garage sale.

Pay attention, take notes, and consider all of those whom enter your home invited, as others' guests, for services, etc.

I'm just about paranoid enough, now, to start taking digital pics of anyone who comes in my house via a remote camera that is mounted above the entry way. The more information you have to give to the police, the better chance of tracking them down.

Again, very sad to hear about this terrible incident.

Tim, you could use the camera you installed in the bathroom

On a serious note - Sorry to hear about the guns. I keep all my firearms in a big safe. I went through and wrote down ALL the serial numbers and descriptions just in case. It's true, you cant rust anyone anymore.
