Default Hey Salty Dogs-Newport Salmon on Sat Question

Hi all:

I also posted this on the main board, but thought I might get some response from the salty dogs as well: My father and I are planning to hit the Big Pond out of Newport for a first ocean salmon trip this year. Any thought on what has been working? Plan on using divers, flashers, and herring. We will also have downriggers if needed. Anybody been out recently with some advice? How deep with downriggers or how many pulls with divers, etc? Not looking to head too far out, but plan on starting to fishin 150-200 feet of water. Is that good? Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Hope to post pics if we are successful.

Mike,
We went out last Saturday and didn't go past the 160 foot mark. We fished just off the whistle trolling divers, flashers, and rotary salmon killers at 3 MPH. We ended up putting 6 keeper coho in the box, 8 nates back in the drink, and lost another half dozen. We were done by noon and all fish were at 6 to 10 pulls. Good luck and post your results
