Default Where would you go ?

I was thinking on my drive from Seattle to PDX last night about other places I would want to live that fed my fishing addiction.

Heres the scenerio.....Boss comes into your office and says you have to transfer and you can live anywhere in the U.S. other then Oregon, Washington or Alaska.

Where would you transfer to ??

My top two choices would be,

1) Key West Florida. Awsome salt water fishing, sunrises and drinks with umbrellas.

2) Gulf coast of Louisiana. The gulf of Mexico has some of the best fishing for hundreds of different spieces as well as great cajun cooking and those big haired girls with that sweet southern drawl.

Fly me to an Island in Alaska, with my rifle, my fishing gear and my family. Build myself a big log cabin, buy me a float plane. I'll work as a guide and guide my kids on the side. Heaven....

Does the Northern California coast count as part of America? That's where I would go with the restrictions you gave.

My vote would have to be Idaho Falls, never been there, but according to my map there is a whole lot of huntin' & fishin' on all points of the compass relatively close to there

Montana, I lived there for 22 yrs. and caught more fish than I could ever think about catching in OR or WA. It's God's country. I had one stream I fished for over ten years and NEVER saw another person fishing. Can anyone on this board say that?

WELL I WOULD HEAD FOR RIGGINS IDAHO. IT HAS HOT SUMMERS AND MILD WINTERS. YOU CAN CATCH STEELHEAD AND RUN A JET BOAT ALL WINTER, CATCH SALMON IN THE SPRING. WHEN THE SALMON SEASON IS DONE HEAD OVER THE SEVEN DEVILS TO HELLS CANYON AND CATCH SMALL MOUTH BASS, STURGEON AND TROUT UNTIL THE STEELHEAD RETURN. YOU NEED ABOUT 3 DIFFERENT JET BOATS TO GET THROUGH THE YEAR. GOOD DAY OF STEELHEAD FISHING WAS 3 GUYS, 14 IN THE BOAT, AND HOOKED 16.

Crabbait,
Is this like one of those tests where it says "Read completely before starting" at the top and at the bottom it says don't do the test?

not sure, that is a tough one....florida, and louisiana do have alot of fishing ops but the humidity...and lots of big bugs, I think riggins Idaho sounds pretty good. do they have a store there though? actually I would go for a small town near a bigger town on north coast of california...very near the beach.

I havn't studied up on it but, somewhere in the southeast. I'd like good access to bass(all Colors), crappie, perch, stripers and catfish. Would like to be fairly close to salt and brackish water. Aways from any BIG cities, around some simple, hard workin' country folk. Southern food, catfish, boudin, chicken, hush puppies, crawdads and anything Cajun. Heck, I might not even mind living in a house that had wheels on it, and a car or two in the yard without, as long as I had the boat(s) I needed.

I'd want to stay away from the tornado alleys as best I could.

As I get older the rabid salmon and steelhead mentality and the long wet winters of the Northwest are starting to get to me I guess. The traffic is projected to get horrible in the next ten years, with no help in sight. Anybody crossed the St. John's bridge at 4:00pm lately? Or any bridge for that matter. I can't even stand to drive West any more unless I'm sure to be getting back over the hill before 3:30 PM.

But wait a minute!

Maybe my boss would be paying me enough and be nice enough to allow me to at least spend the springs every year in th Northwest.... and summers..... and part of the fall! That's it, I'll just spend the winters in the Southeast part of the country....If that's OK with you boss?

I used to live in Idaho Falls and it is located in such an area that you can access alot of good hunting and fishing areas and if youve ever fished the Snake R up around the South Fork youd know you can catch cutts and browns and dollys the size of steelhead and talk about Gods country!!!!!!!
