My son's having a pretty good year! An archery black bear on Labor Day, and a couple close calls on blacktail. (We'll get more excited in November for late season!)
A friend invited us up to chase whitetails, and after an exciting morning, we were able to get within 144 yards of this buck bedded in a stubble field.
Dustin is a hard core bowhunter, and has fired maybe 200 rounds out of a rifle ( 190 of those were .22 lol) in his life.
My buddy was hunting with us, and he let Dustin use his 30-378 ( yes, its technically a cannon). Shooting off a bi-pod, for such a huge cartrige it really doesnt kick.
We had see many many other bucks, some were massive compared to this little guy. But we decided to find one that wasnt spooked, was under 150 yards, and was a legal 3 point. This guy filled the bill.
After getting set up, and taking time to calm down, Dustin perfectly placed the round right below his throat patch. The buck literally didnt flinch.
