From what I have heard it's been lights out. The fishing has been great in the confluence (sp?) for a while now.

I have talked to a number of people who have been cathing fish in good numbers from the mouth of the GR up to Troy.

S&L - in the snake or G.R.? There is good fly fishing right there on the G.R. and not too far up the mainstem, as well as some good water below.

Just spend the last eight days out there on the Snake, Clearwater and GR. There are fish in all three and the crowds last weekend were there to prove it. My group of buddies caught fish at the mouth as well as up to the state line on the GR. Fish were hooked on the Snake but none were landed while I was there. The Clearwater was a little better.

The swing water on the Snake is awesome!

Slow and Low:

This is usually just past of the peak for the Snake, and the lower Grande
Ronde as far as the fish moving . Still lots of fish around though.
The Clearwater opened to catch and kill on the 15 of Oct. the fly fishing normally really falls off.

Lots of good fly water in the Snake from Lewiston all the way to above Pittsburgh Landing. As the Grande Ronde , Salmon and Imnaha turn cold the Snake above the Imnaha stays warm enough for dry lines tell the end of Nov. and later, because of the dam.

The snake above the GR confluence.

the short answer is that there is water right there that can fish well.
The waters up from the confluence are pretty easy to spot and usually very crowded. Lots of boat traffic on that section of river as well. Lots and lots of side drifters working over those runs. There is some good fly water but I think the best bet is up through the canyon for a little bit more peaceful water and usually better fishing IMO.
We have a friend that owns a cabin on the snake about 6 miles up from heller bar. To be honest I usually spend my time down there chasing the chukars but we have had some fantastic evenings swinging flies.

I plan on fishing the snake the 1st 0r second week of november. I plan on swinging the fly in the snake and in the ronde..Is the snake down? how is the water temp? Is it dryline time for the sanke or sink tip?
