Bottom Fish Closures
Listen up folks - This just in from the ODFW
The Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) will adopt 2004 Oregon recreational groundfish fishery regulations at their September 8 -12, 2003 meeting in Seattle, Washington. Due to conservation concerns with canary rockfish, the PFMC at their June 2003 meeting notified Oregon that the impacts on canary rockfish in the recreational fishery must be reduced by approximately 50 percent in 2004. This will likely result in offshore closures for bottomfish species, and possibly retention of canary rockfish may not be allowed.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will be holding several informational meetings during late July to discuss this and other issues for the 2004 groundfish fishery. The attached notice identifies the dates, times, and locations for these meetings. This is an opportunity to ask questions, express your opinion, and offer approaches to reduce canary rockfish impacts, both catch and discard, in the 2004 recreational fishery.
