Ilwaco Report
After the bar was closed early in the morning due to some extremly nasty conditions we were able to get out.
We slept in Sunday morning because of the extreme change in tides on the bar. Went and got a good breakfast in Seaview at Lindas Resturant and headed for the boat. We left Ilwaco around 7:30 am to head out. Might have been a little smoother if we had waited another half an hour. The south jetty area was nasty, nasty. Middle ground was not too bad but the swells were a little bigger. Once out past bouy 6 it was just lots of chop. 2's and 3's were the day on top of 2 to 3 foot chop. Wind was 15 to 20 at times.
Fishing stunk early morning but as we approach the noon tide change the bite came on fast and faster. Lost one really nice king at the boat. Limited on 3 to 8 lb coho for the boat with 4 fishers.
Water calmed down a bit as the day progressed.

Sounds good Mel. Let me know. Yes there is the other pink meet out there. We certainly did not catch them all. The fish were puking anchovies like crazy. They are just gorging themselves.

Re: Ilwaco Report
Glad you guys made it out safe and got into some fish. We had a day like that last year when the bite was almost nonexistant in the morning between the spark plug and two. We ran North a ways until we could see Long beach and got into a fierce bite. Funny how that happens sometime. I have yet to cross the CR bar yet this year cause I have been hitting Newport every chance I get. I am shooting for the first weekend in August but the tides look cruddy for a morning crossing. I guess I will have to hit her late morning and hope the wind doesn't blow us off. Thanks for the report

Re: Ilwaco Report
Zippy is in need of some T.L.C. She has a slow but persistant leak in her bilge that is not getting better or worse just too much to ignore. Does any one have a recommendation for a good repair shop that gets it right the first time? Also is there a Parts Store that is better for inventory and price for Volvo/Ford stuff? Any help pro or con would be appreciated. By the way, C.& E. was not the only successful Fishers we also took six Hatchery Coho out of the gene pool. Thanks, Zippy

Re: Ilwaco Report
Sorry to hear about the leak Lee. Hope you can find a good boat repair shop that can solve it for ya. Nothing like a good bilge pump or two to save the day.

Way to go Bernie. I was thinking of comingh your way and see if I could sneak out around # 2 with you next weekend. I went out of DB Sunday and fought fog, and rough choppy water. Don't want to do that all the time but it all turned out okay. Hooked maybe 15 to 18 fish and brought 11 to the boat. Released a lot but did go home with a 15# chinook I had caught a 28# chinook there the prior weekend when the water was not so bad.
Keep those CR reports coming as I need them to help build my courage. The more fish I see being caught the more courageous I become. I didn't say stupid. Just more brave.
