Re: Spring Bear Data (age)
Can't age unless I can see the wear on the canine's but looks healthy to say the least.

Re: Spring Bear Data (age)
I was going to guess about 10-12 years also. Good sized bear, gray in the muzzle. Was this a 2007 bear? (A couple of us are still waiting on our 2007 bear ages.)
Early bird, your bear looks younger than that - the older bears I've seen had considerably more tooth wear.

Re: Spring Bear Data (age)
Count me surprised. That's a good one to take. Lived a good long life, got in some nice long winter naps, outwitted a hunter or ten, had some girlfriends and didn't have to suffer through a bitter end.

How is a bear of that age for eating? Compared to a younger one? If you have a comparison.

Re: Spring Bear Data (age)
Black bear can actually live to be in their 30's. Im going to guess that mine is mid 20's.....I'll say 26.
It was missing its 5 small teeth on the bottom, and several on top, with extreme wear all over the canines.........

Re: Spring Bear Data (age)
My 2002 bear from Idaho was in very good shape and he turned out to be a strapping 25 year old.

I'll take this bet - I'd guess not over 20 and probably more like 15 based on tooth wear on a couple of old one's we've seen. Had a 17-year old sow that had virtually no teeth. Alot of the molars were worn down to the bone or gone. The canines were all worn or broken off. All of the little teeth in the front were gone.

Black bears can live up to 30 years or more. Oldest one I killed was aged at 23.5 years old.

Re: Spring Bear Data (age)
Yea......especially considering the bear razorhead that I dug out of the shoulder blade.
