Default SOSpenders Auto or Manual???

My wife is going to get me some SOSpenders for my birthday and I need some advice. Do the automatic ones inflate when they get wet or do you have to immerse them in water? Has anyone had any problems with them? I would like the automatic ones but I don't want something to ignite at the wrong time.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I've gotten my mustang auto inflate soaked in rainstorms, splashed with sea water etc. They supposedly dont auto inflate until submersed.
Very comfortable except for the velcro on the collar rubs if you are just in a t shirt.

I have a Mustang auto inflatable. I chose auto, cuz my great concern is bonking my head and not being able to pull the cord to inflate it when I most need it.

I tested my Mustang auto inflate while at Odell lake this past week. We took the kids swimming at a cove where the winds weren't blowing and they took turns doing olympic style dives from the back of the boat. They finally convinced dad to jump into the 62 degree water. It was the perfect time to test the Mustang unit out.

The results were impressive. With in a few seconds of hitting the water the Mustang unit had all 6"4" 250lbs of me floating like a cork. Probably the best part of this experiment was the fact that my wife feels alot more comfortable about me on the big water this summer and she wants 3 more added to the boat asap.
