Albacore 8.4 NM from Depoe
We launched at 4:45 and were heading out through the gap at 5 a.m. Calm water in the morning, but we all know that changed. Hit 60 degree water @ 9 miles out and put out the lines. Trolled for 2 miles for nada. Picked up and ran out. Water dropped down to 59.1, but then jumped up to 60.5. That was about 20 miles out. We fished that spot for a few hours, there was a nice temp break that went from 60.3 to 61.1. We hooked 7 and landed 5, all in the same spot. It started getting snotty so we headed in. Finally got a fish at 12 miles and we were stoked....water temp and color was still good, so we kept trolling. At 8.4 nm from the Bell Bouy we caught our last fish...a nice 30 pounder. The two inside fish were plugged with 6-8 inch long herring!!! Should have been trolling plug cuts I suppose. Too bad it got snotty or I think everyone would have cleaned up. We were closer and a few miles N of the floatilla...fished by ourselves all day.
Awesome. We are canning today. Yummy stuff.
Hope the ocean mellows out.
best fishes,
steve
