Default Weekday Tuna Training

Any of you tuna killers have a open seat? I am in need of some training and would love to rod-n-reel a couple of those albies. I have a boat but just don't have the fuel capacity for a good comfort level. I have done the handlines on charters before so know a little about how it all works.
It looks like the ocean will start to calm down tues-wed. I can be there on short notice from Lebanon. Ready to go!

Another Lebanite!
I do fish tuna during the week, almost exclusively. I may have a seat this week but I am not sure yet. Send me an e-mail with a contact number. AND....a story. It is a tradition that new posters tell us all a story first. Welcome aboard!

Boy if you find someone in Lebanon who is as addicted to fishing as you Dave, you are going to be in Hog Heaven. Especially if he works weekends too.

WP requested my newbie story. This is a true story but the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

The One That Got Away

Three years ago a friend and I made a trip out of Newport to do some salmon fishing. It was a typical summer day with the fog bank sitting offshore a couple of miles. This was in my pre-GPS days and we decided to run out and hang by the bouy just in case the fog moved back in. The fishing was slow and we were getting a little bored. Suddenly one of the poles took a dive and a nice little silver jumped behind the boat. I kicked the boat out of gear and went back to help with the net. We finally boated the fish and looked up to realize we couldn't see the bouy anymore. We had drifted south and the fog had moved back in while we played the fish. The fog had come in fast and there were several boats on the radio that were lost. Using the compass and depth finder I started a zig-zag path back to were I thought the bouy should be. We came across a couple of other lost ghost ships. They decided to follow me, certain that I must know where I was going. 45 minutes later we could hear the bouy and managed to locate it. The fog then started to head back offshore. My buddy and I looked at each other and decided to try fishing again. Heck the day couldn't get any stranger than this. We dropped our lines and started the slow troll keeping that bouy in sight.
My buddy noticed a large charter boat heading our direction. I look back and and noticed they are getting pretty close and they are all pointing at us. Heck they look like they have never seen anyone fishing before..stupid tourists! All of a sudden there is a large spout and then a huge tail appears on the port side. I look down at my fish finder and the screen is filled with one large mass down about 15ft. I look back at the poles and sure enough one goes down. I yell out
"Fish er Mammal on!" The line was peeling and we had to hold tight and break it off. My buddy and I looked at each other said lets get out of here.
We headed back in and straight to the brewpub to tell our story. I don't think anyone believed us.
Somewere out there is a whale dragging a diver
and mooching rig. It's mine if you find it!
