Question Thomas Lures

I have recently returned to fishing as a hobby, since my seven year old son announced that he thought he was a fisherman.

We went to Joe's and got a vast assortment of lures and spinners to try this summer, and the ones I initially liked the best were Thomas Lures. We got a few of the red/gold and blue/gold ones that look like little fish, and we've had good luck with them. Recently, while fishing at Hagg Lake, my son reeled his lure in and noticed that the finish (the blue/gold fish looking part) was sliding off of the lure. Soon after, we had a silver lure with a little etched mark in it, and the cool looking finish was in my son's hand. The same thing happened to one of the red/gold ones the next day.

Is there something we can do to prevent this, or is this something that is common with Thomas lures? I love the action of these little lures, but we have not used then exclusively or excessively, and it seems to me they should last a little longer (snags excluded, of course).

Get a bottle of clear coat sealer and dip or paint your lures with it right out of the box. It helps prevent the paint from chipping or fading even in saltwater. Those Thomas Buoyants are hard to beat. Great spoons!

It couldn't hurt to track down an email or address and drop them a note about the paint issue. They are great spoons, perhaps they also have great customer service. Let us know if you find anything out.

Might be a bad batch. I mostly use the bouyants, and have never had that problem.
Those lures are hard to beat on high lake cutts.

The Thomas Boyant is by far my favorite trout lure. The wobble/wounded fish action is killer. I've also had some issues with the paint chipping, but as stated above, clear nail polish will take care of it.

As already mentioned, contact the company and let em know what's happening. I would think they would be more than happy to make things right, and fix their quality issues. I have read in the past other lure manufacturers will replace a lure when contacted about a problem. Let us know how it turns out. If you don't have to send the defective ones back, paint them your self and apply holographic tape, you might be surprised what the fish think of them!
