Make breakfast burritos at home. Wrap in foil and freeze. When early morning comes, roll it around on the BBQ grill or frying pan. You can even toss them in the coals from last nights fire just to warm it up. I have also layed it under the hood of the ole' cummins, works well. Baked potatoes wrapped in foil are just as good eating whole, or fry up for breakfast with an egg or two. Quick and dirty!

I do all the menu work and cooking for our elk hunt each year. I try to prep as much of the food at home as possible to make it quicker when we are there. Some of the things that have worked for me.
- Venison Stroganoff made before hand and frozen
- Pre made hamburger pattys from Costco. Get the good ones and they are very tasty. I repackage into vacum pack bags the number of pattys I need for each nite.
- Marinated chicken breasts. They usually come in their own vacume pack bags, 3 or 4 breats to a bag.
- Bratwurst sausage (or any kind of sausage that is pre-cooked) toss them on the bbq, add some beans and you're good to go.
- Hamburger Helper made before hand and frozen.
- Meatball soup
- Backstrap steaks or chops if you have some from last year. They are usually thin and bbq very quickly.
Hope that helps.

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
In addition to the above, stew in a dutch oven works great if you have a little time to cook it. You can have all the ingredients ready and just dump it in the pot and cook for a while. Very easy, but it takes an hour or two.

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
camp chilli is the best- 1lb. burger, brown with an onion. add 1 lg can tmatoes, 2 sm can tomatoe sauce, 1 can chilli beans, chilli powder, hot sauce, whatever you want.... get it all going in a pretty good sized pot, put a lid on it and let simmer. have a beer and a snort of camp juice maybe some chips and salsa and talk about the days hunt and presto, it's done!!
Also, with steaks of any sort, cook a pacage of penne pasta. when done throw a cube of butter on top of it add a good amount of garlic powder some parsley(gotta have SOME veggies in camp!) and parmesan...
happy hunting!

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
Wild Boar Tortellini
1 1/2 lb to 2 lb sausage.....This is were the wild boar comes in, I use a pack of hot cased sausage and a pack of med bulk.
1 jar of your favorite sauce......I make mine, but we bought it the first time.
1 lb fresh tortellinis....I also us the dried ones sometimes and they are very good.
Brown sausage, add sauce and heat, add torts and cook till done! You may need a little water if you use dried torts.
You can add lots of other of your favorite items to the pot, but this basic recipe will get you started. Bread and wine are usually the first two things I add to this dinner.

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
for breakfast we always make egg mcmuffins in the tent stove. The stove has a oven side and when we light the stove in the early morning they are heated by the time we get dressed.

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
Bratwurst Taco's
Johnsonville Brats
Onions
Shredded cabbage
Cilantro
Sour cream
Hot Sauce
flour tortillas
Simmer brats and sliced onions in a disposabel aluminum pan on the grill for 30 minutes. Place brats on grill until browned. Place in flour tortilla and load it up. Not near as heavy as in a bun and pretty tasty. This year were smoking ribs while we set up camp, spicy thai chicken, fajitas, tri-tip, venison stroganoff, and stew.

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
I think the one thing you did not mention, that matters is how many is this menu for? if you are going on a solo hunt, it will be different then if you are going in a group of four.
Breakfast is the same for me whether I am alone in a group.
BACON-one of the main reasons to hunt
hashbrowns
pancakes
french toast
Dinners
if I am solo,
I like to precook some chicken or pork and then saute it in a pan with some fresh vegies and teriyaki sauce
Soup
Beer Braughts- Even though my stomach can only handle those on occasion.
when in a group
Chicken and dumplins
chicken tacos
Spaghetti and Meatballs
stroganoff
taco's
Well those are a few of the items on our menu's

Re: Elk Camp Menu Ideas
There will be 3-4 in our group this year, second season rocky mt. in starkey.
Thanks for all the great ideas, I just wanted to mix it up a bit this year.
I prefer my buddy Jack, coke a cola, Bud lite and cheetos cheese puffs, in the morning it's always peppermint schapps with coffee.
 then do it again...
Thanks again and good luck to everyone
