Some thoughts for catching Blufin
I have been watching the forum here for the past week and saw some guys eager to hook a blufin. I recall that last summer a 102lb Blufin was caught up here, so they do exist off the Oregon coast. I have caught all of my Blufin on So. Cal but its the same fish up here. Here is a technique that worked from time to time when the Blufin were mixed in with the Albacore.
Take a large feather 10-12 inches long like a large Zuker bullet nose or stack two or three tuna clones front to back. Troll this setup way back 100-200 yards, ( you need a large reel with alot of line)Flurocarbon leader helps also. Blufin are boat shy most of the time that is why you want to troll the lures far back from the boat. along with the large feather, you might want to add one Rapala magnum 16. Because of the long trolling line turning the boat is a real pain if you have alot of lures way out so I would limit it to two lures. try working the debris lines but do not drive along side them, just run by them in a way that the lures get close to the debris but not the boat. Spreader bars or daisy chains work well also.
Good luck I am trying to get out on a Charter and get some Albies myself, I misses last summers bite becouse I was in Taiwan for most of the summer.
PS: if ther are any seats open I would be happy to fill them. I have all of my own gear for tuna.
