I took my Dad and a retired friend down to Depoe for some Coho fishing today, but when I motored out of the hole I relized that I probably wasn't going to catch any Salmon today.....because I was going to keep heading west
So I put the boat up on plane and ran at 25 mph and ate a leisurely breakfast over glassy swells of the Pacific Ocean.
I noticed that the temp. was climbing very quickly and at 15 miles I was in 61 degree water. I motored west until I could not stand it anymore and put the gear in at 18 miles, within 10 minutes...A DOUBLE. Both fish were landed and the hunt continued.
We found scattered fish, hooking a fish every 45 minutes or so. What I couldn't beleive was the amount of sharks in the water, I have never seen so many sharks in my life. We saw well over 200 sharks in the 6 hours of fishing. In fact we allmost lost an Albie to a shark, luckly only the tail falling victim of the shark's sharp teeth.
We only ended up with 8 Albies but it was by far the best day tuna fishing for me to date. It was a nice surprise to see the ocean so calm, especially after Tuesday...
It was great to get my friend of 65 years young into his first tuna ever
My Dad was also amazed that a 20 pound fish can put up such a strong fight, with thumb blistering runs that put the equipment to the test.
I wish I could join you all this Saturday, but I am exhausted after 2 night with no sleep and 1 night with only 2 hours sleep from this weeks hunts.
Good luck to all, may the seas remain calm
