Default 45 pound Chinook caught in the salt!

This is an exceptionaly large chinook caught in the salt!

Caught by Paul Sunderland of Portland on the charter boat Maranatha out of Dockside Charters.

Happen chance Paul was down here and decided the ocean was so nice and it was his birthday he decided to treat himself to an afternoon trip.

Wow, approxametly 12:30pm shortly after they took off, bingo, the rod started zipping.

What a way to start the day!

This lucky feller was wearing the same smile in the pic when he came in as he was donning in the pic. Probably still wearing it!

Paul accepts the helpful hand of Laird the skipper of the Maranatha to hoist his big proud catch!

Wow, looks more like a fresh cromer river caught fish!

The Dockside Charter guys have been slaying the chinooks! They are geared up for it.

Congrat's Paul!

(Well, same old story, have to edit the pic just to click the email notification).

Dan, you seem to be in on all the great catches. Wanna ride along for a 1/2 day trip Sunday mornig with three not so experienced ifishers that want to learn about bottom fish and nooks.

We're safe in a 19' North River. You already know lucky luke as you fished with him a week or so back. We can make room for ya, and really want to find some bottom fish and a chinook or two like this one. I boated a 28# nook last Saturday.
Send me an email if you wanna be our teacher and tag along. There will not be any baby sittings as we are all experienced salmon & steelheaders.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Lucky Luke? Too many names! Was he with skipper? Nancy?
I'm sorry, I've been overwhelmed lately with new folks from all over the place.

I think it was with Nancy now that I think about it. He was the lucky one!

We'll see but I was thinking of asking a friend to take me down to Windy Bay for I have neglected my tackle bus.

But I am a good procrastonater!

Thought I heard of rumors that our good fortunes (weather) might change by then?

Next time a big hog comes in like this Marie, I'll call you and you can zip right on down here!

Thanks. That is an exceptional one for open ocean this time of year!

You up there in Tillymook will have plenty or a few of this size nook's come in out of the salt this fall when they start migrating into the bay.

Dan you have a good memory as Lucky Luck was on Nancy's boat with you. And he did catch a couple fish right off the bat.

We will be at the DB launch about 6 am and will wait till about 6:15 but want to get our ASAP. If we see you, you are welcome to jump in and tag along and teach us about bottom fish. I just bought a GPS so will be playing with it. I will spend the evening reading the manual so I can at least turn it on tomorrow and track our progress.

See you there unless there is a big change in the weather and the seas are not being friendly.

Will be in white North River with an American Flag on the stern light pole. I fish sticker in one window and 3 anxious fishers.

Great looking fish, but not the biggest of the week. While carking tuna at South Beach Friday, a boat came into C-dock with a confirmed 49-pounder. I saw it and witnessed the weighing at the store.

Wow, what a week for the Seasquid. I took Tuesday-Sunday off.

Tuesday -- 22 tuna
Wednesday -- canning, freezing, scrubbing the boat.
Thursdasy -- flat ocean, 1

Oops --

Thursday -- 18 tuna -- awesome ocean.
Friday -- Jumped on with Popeye and just watched as the crew spanked 18. I saw my first sea otter off the Oregon Coast -- quite a site.
Saturday -- 6 coho -- couldn't find a nook. I thought about tuna, but I had a tired boat and an even more tired skipper.
Sunday -- slept in and drove home.

Looks like I missed an opportunity to fish with snapshot this morning. Bummer!

Maybe if you can make it next weekend snapshot.

Someone (ifisher) wants to go this next weekend but I haven't been able to find the thread they posted on.

Sorry I missed the opportunity to fish with you.

Next weekend I'm game if anyone going.

Let me know how it went snapshot.

How much would this fish have weighed if it could have ate a bunch more and then entered the Columbia? What type of weight gain do these fish take on right before they do enter the river?

Hey WP,

Thanks to you as well...

I'll be back at South Beach later in the week, probably Friday sometime. I'm back to being more of a weekend warrior now, but may be able to sneak in a trip on a Friday.

Man, I was hoping somebody showed up Thursday. I went out at 4:30 through the gap and just idled out until I could see well enough to run. It was great to hear your voice and even better to see your boat on the horizon.

I'll be out again on the tuna grounds ...

take care

Dan, sorry we missed you but by the time we thougt about not going at all due to the water and weather (Fog) we left the ramp about 6:30 and stayed out until about 2 Pm.

We hooked a lot of fish on your recommended lure and lost most that hit herring. We stayed close to the whistler ( a mile or so ) and brought 11 fish to the boat and came howe with three. One chinook. We chased a dark cloud on the water for some time and it would disappear if we got very close. It looked like it could have been a ball of bait fish but nothing was breaking the surface. We gave up on that and found our way back South to the whistler in the fog. Glad I bought the gps the day before.

I really would appreciate you tagging along to show me how and where for the bottom fishing at or near DB. I do not what to go out to far and don't want to get to close to the rocks if you know what I mean.
