Default BIG tides this weekend- be careful !

Folks- the tides are huge this weekend (11 feet runoff Sat am at Newport, 10 feet at the CR  ) and daylight bar crossing may be a real problem. Be very careful out there. Remember that the CG can't see in the dark any better than you can so don't call for a report at 4 am and expect them to tell you.
I would NOT recommend crossing until there is enough light to clearly see the bar conditions, then call the CG for a report.
Under normal ocean conditions I would also wait until an hour after to cross any bar where there is sig. runoff (Depoe is about the only bar that doesn't have runoff). It would take very flat ocean conditions for me to venture out with these tides prior to the current slacking or the flood starting in.
Be careful- good fishing!

Exact warning I issued in another thread. Noaa radio has posted a trecherous bar warning for Sat and Sun. Be careful and lets use our heads.

"trecherous" ... hmmm. I think I'll stay home and figure out why my transducer thinks it's 32ºF all the time.

The Key is to go out when the water is not moving. Sunday morning time your CR crossing for about 7:45 am Low Slack and plan to return about six to seven hours later on the High Slack. This tide should produce a nice Rip line that will be very fishy.

Pete- me three, only mine always read 46 deg. Good thing Igot the one below that works huh? The one on the bridge actually started reading when we got out in the real warm water. Maybe it just had hypothermia? There is a cal menu on mine but it wont lock in after I adjust it!

C & E:upon reflection and rereading Mel's and your posting you add may about 1/2 hour onto that first pronouncement of mine. Call it "Tidal Adjustment". No worries about brown pants that way or the pucker factor.Zippy

Even Depoe Bay can get kinda ugly when there is a big minus tide like that. Use caution and if the rough bar lights are blinking, check with the Coasties before you even consider going!
