Let's start with last weekend, the opener.
It rained in the Ochocos, ever thing was wet, slippery, and not to much fun hiking, and with bad feet, really not to much fun, for me.
Saturday, my son & I we drove to what was a zipper lip area, half of all the hunter were there, ($%^&*$#) dang-nab-it, but alls well, my last name is not Ochocos, so DEAL WITH IT.
Sunday, sore and tired, but after spending $300.00 and going cheap, we pulled are carcases out of a warm trailer, into the jeep and off we went, again we hunted hard

we humped up one side and down another, the big boys hide in the nastiest of places, and after all day, breaking breed with mother nature, (hot soup & sandwich) we called it a day, hunted back to camp out of the jeep.
We don't want to talk about Monday, cut up, tired, sore, we went for bust, drove back up into a area, that last year, we got lucky, and this year, we pulled up to a spot, where last year there was a motor home, not this year, I got out of the jeep, and started to walk over the side of this hill, and you can see for a mile, and thats when I saw 4 deer, (1) a doe, I ranged her & the tree she was under at 260, I said or called out to my son, in whisper voice, Erik----Erik----than louder Erik, the doe busted me, he came over and said what, I pointed, and said 3 more, he said look just left of the tree, so I do, I looked at him and said what, than I saw the Coyote, the biggest one I have ever seen.
The doe's took off, never to see what the other 3 were, I sat there and said I need to see if I can hit at that range. well Mr coyote took 2 steps, and I dusted him.
Back to camp and hook up the trailer and head for home.

I got up today at 3am, coffee, and out the door, met up with Jes, another hunting partner, in Prineville, talked to where, what, or when, we didn't go 2 block from his house and a 3 point crosses the road, "O" it's looking good.
We went up to 2610, sat there and said NA, lets go up to 3209, turn right and head for the ranger station, today the roads were frozen, and not to slippery, it's 21 outside, and frozen snow, we come up to the tree farm, we stop and have a cup of coffee, and out to our right, I see movement, put the bio's on them, get out of the truck, Jes, says there at 280y and moving to our right, I put the cross hairs on the forkie, and now they are starting to move a little faster, Jes, says SHOOT!! but them dang trees get into the way, so looking with one eye through the scope and trying to see trees, stumps, and beyond, they stop, ranged at 300y.
I said Jes thats a heck of a shot, are you sure?? Yep, they turn walk back our way, stop, I said get this on film, ""BANG"", and they take off, I put another shell into the chamber, Jes, said he's down, "WHAT", I find the buck,
he is not 8 yards from where he was standing when I pulled the trigger, one round right through his hart
My 2008 Deer season is over. Thank You Lord.
