Default Ocean condition?

I'm looking for a good day to take my 19'NR Mariner outside. The forecast is for 2' waves and 4' swell on Sat. What is the norm for a "flat" ocean? The pic's I've seen recently look pretty nice. Any info on how to read these reports,(probably out of Newport)would be apreciated.

The conditions have been excellent all week and are predicted to stay the same.

Find a running partner or take an experienced person with you. Saltwater boating should be learned through in person instruction.

The ocean demands respect from even the saltiest of dogs.

wanafish - 2 and 4 should be fine, a little slop if your runnning into them and thats it.
However- there are some very large tide swings this weekend (Full Moon). 11 feet of runoff Sat am, the bar will likely be ripping at daylight. Be carefull and the safe bet is to wait until after the current slacks at low, which wil lbe close to 7 am. Call the CG for a bar report before you commit.
Good luck, be safe!
