Default Depoe Bay Update 7-10-03

As you can see, the ocean was a bit rough yesterday! (Notice how Chris (Martin85) and his daughter had to hold on with both hands while I snapped this pic)!

Chris with one bright coho and one dark one. (He tried to convince us the darker one was a ling).

Steve (love2fish) and I with a mixed bag of Dopey Bay fish. Steve had a knack for catching lings both the regular and the green ones.

Notice how both boats were only a foot apart while Chris snapped the photo. Rough day!

Both Steve and Chris were more interested in catching rockfish than silvers. If we hadn't spent so much time targeting the elusive hatchery coho yesterday, we would have caught early limits of rockfish.

As it turns out, we ended up with 3 coho and 6 legal lings, 1 cabezon, approx. 25 blacks and a lack of sleep in short order.

It was great fun and an experience anyway!

Today I have a reliable report of tuna being seen and possibly caught 14 miles out. Nancy (Sea Jypzee) will no doubt report on that later. The report came from a charter boat captain.

Coho fishing seemed to pick up a bit today and some with addipose fins were brought in again.

Bottom fishing was hot with several charter boats limiting out by 9:30 in the morning. (Just goes to show you that not only the spring and winter months are the only best times to go bottom fishing).

Will post some pic's of the Pilar gangsters in a while de-loining tuna and sushi-ing it in a while.

Ocean still nice but not quite as nice as yesterday, but real nice.

Dan

Holy Mackerel, Dan, I didn't know Foster Lake had that kind of fish in it. No, wait, that couldn't be Foster. Foster is never that smooth. Must be Devil's Lake. No, wait .... it's your BATHTUB!

I feel for you guys, brutalizing yourselves like that just so we can have a picture of a couple of fish.

What a day!

Yea come on down you old skein! Enjoy God's country!

Anyway, I'm going to go back down to the port docks to help out Nancy and a couple ifisher's. Bail them out on there tuna massacre!

She has a couple ifisher's that went out with her today including that crazy Russian, Wild Dawg or Hawg. The other I believe says he is Bait Boy. Doesn't matter, he is worth the entertainment (that crazy one).

A guy named Mike asked me if I was Depoe Dan and I hid again and blamed it on the Ruskie.

He told me to post and tell Catch & Eat to get his, well, a, boat down here and go tuna madness fishing. Don't understand it. Someone get the msg to Catch & Eat if you would. Thanks.

Will post later including the "wild dog" Pilar gang. (Pic's aren't as fresh as the tuna however)!

Later.

I don't know where you guys were fishing, but the boat I was in, was in swells that must have been 15'. Okay, maybe not, I'll admit it I have a problem with motion sickness . I guess admitting that you have a problem is the first step to recovery . Even though the ocean didn't agree with me, I had a great time, and will do it again and again until I get it right. Depoe Bay Dan was a great host, and showed us a few spots to get the bottomfish. That guy is a master with a filet knife too. I look forward to fishing with him again. Thanks Dan.

Nice little repport there DD. Sure hope that water stays that nice for the weekend. I really want to hit those rock fish someday but would need for ya to go along to show us how to get em.

that just counldn't be Bait Boy as he is a flatlander from the valley and gets sick just looking at the wind blown Columbia. Come on give us a report of your tuna trip and if you were able to keep it down or not??????

Hey Steve I've known you have a problem with motion sickness for years, I work with you. You dont have to go out in the ocean to prove it.
Dan was great for info on bottom fish. The how and the where, it made for one of the best days in the ocean ever. I have spent all night convincing my daughter that its not quite that nice every time out there. I do have to say that going out of Depoe Bay was great and I think that its my new favorite port. I will have to see it when its dicey out and make a final decision coming through the slot. Thanks again Dan you made it a great day for me and my daughter and I wont soon forget it.

P.S. you make a good boat capt. for Steve's boat

Dan...it's time for bed now .
WildDog, er Hawg here. Made her home safe and sound, if a little whoopertated.
Hour 21 now--must focus--fading quickly--dont...go...into...the...light
What a great day with my skipper "Capn' Nancy", and everybodies favorite Baitboy "Deckhand"...ah, strike that--reverse it  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'l let Baitboy and Nancy tell the details, but our tally was 21 flyers and one fine day to be offshore.
Ya know, thats the stuff of my dreams. In 20 years I'll stare at my grandkids with yet another incredulous look and say, "Remember?!? Hell I lived it

Dan,

Those big swells beat ya up very bad? Looks rough but I'm sure you pulled through OK.

Got the message Dan. Thanks. But Cindy Lou is not ready for Tuna town at this time. I love her but I don't trust her that far ....YET! Got to solve a few mechanical issues and then maybe, a small maybe I'll go. I would rather have more time in with Salty Dogs before venturing out that far. I done 16 miles but not 30 or 40. Not worth it at this time.

Anyone that needs a deck hand with expense money you can e-mail me. I would appreciate any offers for some future saturday open seats. May have an offer for next week from a gracious captain.

Just kiddin' on that last post!

Wild Hawg is worth his weight in gold though.

Quite the character. Bet he was voted class clown?

You're right Wild Hawg or Charlie. Crabbait told me the same thing. Time for sleep.

Should have listened!

Dan
