Default Albacore on the slide???

Has anyone been catching albacore on the slide or while others are fighting fish? I threw out fish traps last week, but I did not get a hit. I've heard they will hit iron, and a buddy caught one last year, but I have not. Has anyone caught fish out there any other way desides trolling???
Just trying to figure out if some of those So Cal techniques work up here. They should, shouldn't they???

thanks
steve

We hooked a few last year casting swimbaits. Man you really gotta hang on for those first 15 seconds!

We picked some up on iron yesterday. A shiny sardine looking jig sold at Joes.

Fishmstr..Yes the albies will definitely eat on the slide but you want to get into the water asap most of the time. When the rod or rods go bendo, dump your plastic over in freespool.. This will be chaotic as you also have your trolling rods to deal with. One option is to drop back in freespool and when the boat stops completely pick up a trolling rod and throw the swimbait rod in the now empty rod holder letting it sink while winding in the troll rod. When you are in freespool on the drop in after the intial hookup, if the line suddenly stops or rips off the reel faster than it should, throw the reel in gear
and try to refrain from just setting the hook but rather start grinding taking out all slack until you can grind no more and the fish will be on. Also you do not necessarily have to cast the plastic out but just drop in on the side of the boat with the wind in your face so the lure drifts away from the boat instead of under it..I'm sure you'll really enjoy hooking em on plastic. Good luck

Sounds like alot of fun catching them this way. Sport or meat fishing whats it going to be? I think I will catch one on a 4" buzzbomb. They will catch anything and check out the crome finish. I caught a salmon trolling this year and landed it, then instead of setting up again into a troll through the say location I broke uot the buzzbomb and second cast nailed a coho on the slide....On a steelhead rod ocean coho demand a little more respect than when landing them on the broom stick.
