Default Nehalem bar coho

I'll be down at Nehalem next weekend camping with some friends and was wondering if anyone has been fishing offshore for salmon down there. If the ocean is nice, I'd like to take the boat along and get out there. Has anyone been doing any good out there? How far out? I don't want to get out too far maybe a couple miles is my fear factor range. Also, I don't have the regs with me right now, is the ocean open on Saturdays out of the Nehalem?

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at Marie's post from Tillamook Bait ( HERE ). Seems that 15lb coho was caught only a mile out of Nehalem. It's also not too early for chinook in the jaws. I'll be down there this Sunday and will post a report of how it goes.

Haven't heard but there should be some Coho to be had and maybe a Chinook. It is that time of year. Be careful on the Nehalem Bar!!! It can be very nasty. Very shallow with big steep waves especially on the ebb. I have heard of at least 2 capsized boats on that bar in the last year. Plan your trip around the tides and be careful. If you get out and it looks too rough to get back in go down to Garibaldi and hitch a ride back to get your truck/trailer. Garibaldi is not great either but better than Nehalem (IMHO). Myself, I prefer to lauch out of Garibaldi even though my house is only 5 minutes from the Nehalem STate Park ramp.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Thanks guy's. Blackdog, I'll be waiting to hear your report. I'll look at the ocean conditions before I head out...probably just crabbing if she looks too rough.

Sorry Loser....I don't do that! Nobody could fill your shoes anyway. Your boss is gonna let me off the week of August 18th as well. I'm going to spend a week down in Astoria. You'll have to come join me a couple of mornings.

Everyone else...thanks for the info, I'll post a report when I get back from Nehalem.
