Default Chanterelles this weekend?

Haven’t mushroom hunted in quite some time. Since I was a kid in fact. I hear that there are reports of mushrooms in the coast range already. My grand folks tell me that we used to hunt out side Sandy near bull run. Has anyone had experience out there? Could someone PM me with specifics?

They closed the river out at my folks farm so I decided to do a little elk scouting and picked a few meals of chanterelles last weekend out in the coast range, as well as some lobster and chicken of the woods mushrooms.

With the warm weekend after the rainy time we have had it should be good picking. We need to remember to cut the mushrooms and not pull them, then we can get more later!

Should be peeking this weekend. There were a few punky ones last weekend- should be culling more this weekend. Conditions should be ideal. Look in stands of mature firs(50+years).

I picked my first Morels this past turkey season and I'm hooked. Any good guides for picking Chantarelles you can suggest? I just don't want to die by eating the wrong thing. What do Lobster and Chicken of the woods taste like?

Don't forget to wear your hunter orange while out in the woods this time of year, lots of hunting going on out there..............
