Friends house slid down the hill yesterday
I was so busy yesterday I didn't even check the local news. Kathei is a member at my health club and an fellow avid racquetball player. Knocked me off my socks when I got an e-mail from the club director about her home.
If you have not seen it yet either plenty of stuff on KGW and other sites.
She and her Husband lost everything, she barely escaped herself.

Yeah, it’s been all over every news station. I think just because of how bizarre it was. Just out of the blue, BOOM, lost your house.
Wow!

Re: Friends house slid down the hill yesterday
A friend at work used to live three houses down from them. When I saw it on the news I immediately thought of him. Surprising though considering we didn't get a ton of rain. Sorta makes you wonder what's going to happen when we do.

Re: Friends house slid down the hill yesterday
I've not had the chance to talk to her yet, but imagine trying to leave your house as it starts to tumble backwards down the hill. She had to scramble up the side of her house which now became the roof.

Re: Friends house slid down the hill yesterday
I think my Sister used to live about 10 houses away from that spot. Word I read about tonight was a leaking pipe or something saturated the soil and caused it to go. Those houses in that area all look like they could have landslide problems, and with one landslide having happened, I would be worried about houses near there, since the slide probably has destabalized the areas around it.

Re: Friends house slid down the hill yesterday
Played racquetball with her yesterday what a story. She basically stayed in the house to late. She was able to get the front door open and saw the side walk buckle. She went to grab one last thing and came back to the front door - now the street was 15 feet above her. Neighbors helped her scramble back up just before the house went down the rest of the hill and knocked the house below off its foundation as well. The neighbor was talking with the news about how she ruined his life. Gee don't you think the first thing he should have been concerned about was if his neighbor lived through it?
Anyhow they lost everything. Friends have been managing to get her some stuff everyone being very generous.
She doesn't want any attention rather to just get on with the business of putting her life back together. The news folks from all over the world are haunting her, even trying to get a story from her mother. She has asked them all to just go away despite the offers of an interview fee.
In a couple weeks we will be hosting a fundraiser for their family at Sunset Athletic Club - it will be a mixer of sorts I'm sure well wishers and anonymous contributions will be gladly accepted. If any one is interested, please PM me.

Re: Friends house slid down the hill yesterday
If a city water/sewer line broke and liqufied the soil I'd have them provide a new house, something to look at. Glad every one is safe.
