Re: Elk Picture
Thanks for the nice comments. If anyone wants a larger version, just e-mail me. Sometimes these small file size ones for Ifish don't turn out as well as wallpaper.
Here are a couple more.
This is almost the same as the first shot, but you can see that the 2nd cow on the left has her head a little different. I think this one might be a little sharper too.
Taken in Yellowstone driving south towards Grant Village. Spotted this herd just as the sun was going down. Only had 3 or 4 minutes to quickly snap pictures and hope for some decent exposures. Taken with a 300mm lens, they were probably 500 yards away.
And this is just outside of Mammoth... This guy has a broken rack, though you can't see it here. He put on a great display bugling and chasing his cows around....

Nice work Mike. I figured you were on dry land when you "shot" these, as few wapiti make it out to the 125 line.
Hope you had a great time in my homeland. The pics are really, really good.

Re: Elk Picture
THANKS A LOT!!!
Aren't they just Grand?
I really needed that right now, just as hunting season is in full swing, the colors are changing and my trigger finger is extremely itchy.
Seriously, thanks.
Here's a shot back at you from the ranch I grew up on (used to be my own little slice of paradise):

Camera is a Nikon D40. Lens on the elk is 85-200. Landscape lens is the 18-55
Elk silhouette shots were f5.6 at 1/100,
Elk with head back was f10 at 1/400,
First lake landscape was f10 at 1/60.
2nd lake was at f7.1 at 1/160
3rd with the horse and meadow was f16 at 1/100
Different shutter speeds and aperture settings on the landscapes because they were taken from just after sunrise until about 9:30 am.

Re: Elk Picture
Thanks. The more I ask that question, the more I like the Nikon cameras and lenses over the Canon. It makes me want a Nikon Camera more and more...
Great pictures. I really like the the landscapes of Teton NP. I need to get over there to see it.
Thank you for the pics and the camera info.

Nalu,
If you're an OHA member, you should enter that elk shot in the magazine's contest. You'd have a great chance at winning a rifle or scope!

Re: Elk Picture
Great pics Mike. I drove through the Teton Valley coming and going from my hunt...both times in the dark.
But I have seen them before. I wish I had taken some scenery shots over there, it was breathtaking.
Hey Teton, looks like you were in Wy-Daho. Idaho side??

Yes, I grew up on the normal side of the Tetons. Jackson is a nice place to visit (or work), but its a little touristy for me.
Our farm and ranch was about 3 miles north of Tetonia along Badger Creek, which is the last little town you pass through on your way out of the Teton Valley headed West. Our East property boundary was about 5-6 miles from the state line with Wildoming.
Miss that place, especially during the fall. I had guaranteed landowner deer and elk tags every year until 2005 when we sold the place.
Here is a shot with a little more scenery, a couple of our grain fields and pond in the foreground, and the Tetons in the background.
