Ocean Salmon Reg questions....
I understand because of coho issues, it's barbless hooks for coho. (Fin clipped coho only)
Must you also use barbless if you target chinooks down deep?
I'd also heard that while you can retain 2 salmon (max of 6 per week) only one of the daily limit may be a chinook. But two fin clipped coho are ok. The chinook do NOT need to be fin clipped... correct?
Is this info correct? Any other special rules I need to be sure to follow?
Thanks for the info.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">First off - Yes, you must use barbless hooks for fishing in the ocean for Salmon of any type. As for limits, you can retain 2/day with no weekly limit...so you can get 2 each day till the season closes. They can be chinook or Fin Clipped Coho in any combination. The Chinook do not need to be fin clipped, however IF you happen to get one that is, you can tag it on a special hatchery salmon tag, so as not to use up all your spots on your regular tag.

Hope this helps

Re: Ocean Salmon Reg questions....
The regulations for Ocean Sport Salmon require that Single-Point, Single Shank,BARBLESS HOOKS REQUIRED.
Leadbetter Pt.,WA to Cape Falcon
Open June 29 through September 30 or 112,500 coho quota, open Sunday thru Thursday. Closed between Cape Falcon and Tillamook Head begining August 1. In season management may be taken to keep chinook within the overall recreational quota for North of Cape Falcon.
Bag Limt: Open for all salmon, two salmon per day, but only one chinook. All retained coho must have a healed adipose fin clip.
Size Limits: Min lengths are 18"for coho, and 26" chinook; and 20" steelhead.
Special Regulations: Closed within the Columbia Control Zone. No more than 3 single shank, single point , barbless hooks can be used.Confrence call will be held Aug 6 to consider opening for fishing 7 days a week.
I hope this helps clear things up. I got the info from the updated regs released in May 2003 by ODFW.

Re: Ocean Salmon Reg questions....
LOL, it all depends on where in the ocean you're fishing obviously.
"Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain -
Chinook General Season - March 15 - October 31 except as noted for the selective coho fishery.
Bag Limit - Two Salmon per day
Size limits - Minimum 20" for Chinook and Steelhead.
Special Regulations - No more than 2 single-point single-shank barbless hooks.
Selective Coho Fishery -
June 21 through earlier of Aug 24 or quota of 88,000 coho. Open 7 days per week.
Bag Limit - 2 Salmon per day. All retained coho must have a healed adipose fin clip.
Size Limits - Min. lengths of 16" for Coho, and 20" for Chinook and Steelhead.
Special Regulations - No more than 2 single-point single-shank barbless hooks. The Chinook general season reopens the earlier of Aug 25 or the attainment of the coho quota."
Clear as mud! This from the same reg sheet that Stick Flicker got his from.

Re: Ocean Salmon Reg questions....
uboatcrd... SJ was kind enough to post the regs link above... yes, different zones currently have different days of the week open.
Central Oregon is currently open 7 days a week.

Re: Ocean Salmon Reg questions....
The ocean salmon regulations for Oregon are posted in a somewhat more user friendly manner than the PFMC version at Oregon Ocean Salmon Regulations
Also you can check out the rest of the website for catch updates, historical catch information, and an ocean salmon identification guide.

helps with putting locations to names.
