Default Salty dogs hammer the tuna ... Live report

Live update from Sea Squid returning to Depoe Bay, heavily loaded with the pigs with fins.

20 + fish all good grade at location 61 degrees, which is BTW my favorite place on this rock we call Earth. They quit counting at 20 and probably have a few more than that. All boats scored and the death toll will be updated as more live reports come in.

N44 54.968'
W124 39.342'

Also in the fleet were Marty, Capt & Marie, Myles and WP. Others boats were included in the wolfpack but names unknown at this time. The water was 59 degrees and up to 62 but the fish were in the cooler water. The South wind was stronger than expected but the fleet is homeward bound and heavy with longfins.

That is all for now ... break

Oh, Crabby, I love you man.

That dude was guarding the entrance to our vacation place last week. I just had to take his picture and the next thing you know Wa La.

Now that big Jon's boat is out of the way you guys should be launching soon, Eh?

Talk to me about your inaugural voyage for TUNA!

My mate and I are dying of curiosity.

As soon as I take delivery she goes into mass installation (group party with wild abandon starts with an "o" ends with "y" and does not make it through the word filter)! Will be cutting holes and mounting toys as fast as we can, then into the water for shakedown on all systems.

As soon as I can firm up a date for Tuna Town you will be the first to know. Looks like end of the month.

Netscape, would that be Janice Green and her mate?

Head for '61 degrees', the spot mentioned above and kill fish. They are in there thick if the live reports I got this afternoon can be believed. I will post the spots we did this weekend when I get home tonight and pry them out of the fish TV.

Hey Netscape (Skip?), would that be Janice Green you're going out with? I should be there with Marty tomorrow; it would be a hoot to see Janice get into the tuna! See ya....Mark

Glenn Captain Dennis and Steve

Pictured is Capt Dennis from Tillamook Bait with a long fin keeper.

211 pounds of TUNA or 11 fish total.

Left at 5am and went between 30-35 miles out.

I cooked up tuna for dinner tonight and we were amazed how good it was. Oven baked and deep fried. Never tasted anything better.

I just got home from the Hunt, and every joint, bone and muscle is soar. Unfortunately not from fighting fish. We ended up with only 3 fish for my boat and we had to work hard for those fish.

The conditions just kept getting worse and worse, making it the longest ride home ever for me, around 2hours and 45 minutes, for 35 miles. But we were lucky I heard of a couple of boat that had double that time getting home  The sad part about the ride home was that a wave caught my Salty Dog flag just right and broke the bracket off of my bow rail :depressed: , let us bow our heads for a moment as the first Salty Dog flag is put to rest :depressed:

We got a late start and was not able to run out with the 'Dogs, so we followed the voices coming over the radio. We ended up a little south of the pack but found 60 degree water at 22 miles, but no fish. We were able to get some numbers from WP(thanks!!!!) and headed 5 miles north to hunt with the pack. We found fish right away, 2 coming in on a purple diving Rapala and 1 on a Mexican Flag cedar plug.

When the heads of the white caps were as long as my boat, we pulled in and ran for the farm. 35 miles as per Mr. GPS.

At about 25 miles, the water temp. shot up from 60.1 to 61 then 61.5

Did we put our lines in the water? No, we didn't it had taken us 1 hour to go the first 10 miles and I wasn't sure how far I could stretch my fuel. We did see 2 commercial trollers working this water hard. Man I wish I would have found this water right off the bat.

It took another 1 3/4 hours before we saw land again. When I finally looked at my gas gauge it was resting past the "E" with no bounce, at the first buoy. A few prayers were said, and I was able to power her home, finally!!

Good job on those fish Capt. Dennis!

I will be down there again tomorrow, but fishing a little closer in for some Kings and Coho.

See you on the water!

The black boat got only 12 fish in the box. I was handicapped by a non functioning fathometer...so no sea temp :depressed: The fish were of good size and grade. Got to meet a bunch of the Ifishers at the cleaning station. The weather was bumpy but not too bad for us...just a little bruising! I will be heading out again in the A.M. Looks like it is flattening out some tonight. Tuna...tuna...tuna!
Next time....20 fish or bust!

Ihave a 20ft seaswirl and went out last year 35 miles however I think I was tuna crazy. Especially Andy coho how big is your boat and Im glad you made it back. How much gas does your boat hold??

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">Choo Choo,
I have a 24' Bayliner(its for sale in the ifish classified) It holds 55 gallons on the main tank and then I bring along another 14 gallons, with a 4.3 V-6.

Just got back in today, Salmon fishing only, and the water was BEAUTIFUL!!!! Glassy swells and no wind. The Salmon were cooperating nicely today 3 quick limits  all silvers, the smallest was 8lbs

I sure hope they hammered them out there today!

I only got 3 to the boat, all on purple and black tuna clone. We were about 35 miles out and realized I had not programmed the coordinates at Depoe correctly, holy ????!! But that's another story. After backtracking on the compass for a while we pulled up to a commercial fisherman and shamefully asked for coordinates to Depoe bay and took a 5 hour beating home.

Myles, no chart plotter on your gps? If so you can find your way anywhere you have a chart for without preset waypoints.
If not- get one. You never know when you have to go into a strange port/harbor for safe refuge. Stuff happens out there and all the time!
