For Immediate Release Thursday, July 3, 2003

All-depth Pacific halibut fishery to re-open in August from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain

PORTLAND - The recreational halibut season in all-depth waters will be open for four days in August between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain. Sufficient quota remained from the spring fishery to add to the summer quota and allow a four-day season.

The season will be open Friday, Aug. 1, through Saturday, Aug. 2, and Friday, Aug. 8, through Saturday, Aug. 9. If the quota is not met, the fishery will re-open Aug. 22 and/or 23.

The daily bag limit is the first fish 32 inches or longer. The annual limit is six Pacific halibut. Retention of canary rockfish and yelloweye rockfish is prohibited during the all-depth halibut season if any halibut are on board the vessel.

The recreational halibut fishery between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain remains open seven days a week in waters inside the 30-fathom curve. It is scheduled to close Oct. 31, 2003, or when the quota is met, whichever occurs first. The halibut fishery also is open seven days a week in all-depth waters north of Cape Falcon and south of Humbug Mountain.

there's fish there but you have to know where "there" is and even then it's a crap shoot. One of the big mystery's for many including myself. Off the lighthouse in NP is a start.

These halibut come into "shallower" water to spawn during the summer months....but where is the great mystery. You can catch them insid ethe 30 F curve but it is a guess.
