Thanks to a last minute call from ifisher Smiley I got in on some killer chanterelle hunting today. We did very well getting lots of firm chanterelles in the Coast Range. It appears there has been little hunting going on this year. The past dry weather had me less than optimistic.....And I was going to wait til next weekend.

My parents used to take us kids out to hunt for them....and they where good back then. I went on a short search last year....and could find nothing, actually at the same area my parents took my sis and I 30 years ago...!

My family scored too. I love this time of year. Nothing like the wet, musty smell of the woods and a big steaming bowl of cream of chanterelle soup with warm croutons, some smoked salmon on the side, and a tall glass of homebrew IPA. mmmmmmmm
We were out last weekend because we had a dose of rain the weekend prior and they were just coming up. I knew this would be a good weekend.

I was also less than optimistic while out in the woods this weekend and didnt look in one of my mushroom honey holes, maybe I should have seeing as how i have been craving them for months now, I will check next time out for sure.
when I lived in Corvallis we would do very good for chants up on the west side of Marys Peak, off the access roads.......another Ifisher had rec'd it to me and most of the time they were real plentiful.
