Default Ilwaco Report

Well the day did not start off to well. A bad coil and a problematic plug wire dampened the day until we got going by 7:45am.

The ocean was nice enough and actually got better as the day approached noon time. Fishing was so so until around noon and the tide change. Then all heck broke loose and we put the final 3 in the box.

Ended the day with one nice nook 18#, a feeder king 12#, one real nice coho of 8# and the final 3 were in the 4 to 6 # range.

Had a bit of a struggle finding the fish but once on them the bite was fast and furious. Sure wish they would open it 7 days a week.

Glad you were able to work out the kinks and get some fish. How was the crabbing?

Thanks for the report Bernie. We are hitting the Newport bar in the morning to see if we can't find some.

C & E,
How far out did you have to go to get into fish? I'm hoping to go this weekend.

We were between 2 to 4 miles south of the CR bouy in 230 to 255 water. Fishing did get better as we were heading in toward bouy 2. Other reports indicated that around the south jetty and 4 to 6 miles down the coast in 110ft of water the fishing was fast and faster. Hope this helps.

keep it on 68 and we will talk about where the Bite is. Also the Chater boys use four, seven? and eleven and if you see one fire up to move to a new spot just play like the FBI and listen in.

Ah yes my good buddy Zippy! Lee, welcome about mate. Folks Zippy is a class act and a great saltwater fisherman too. I have had the pleasure of fishing with Lee on many occassions. He has lots of great information to share and I am sure He will also have a few questions too.

So Lee, it is customary to share an initial story of your fishing expeditions with the folks here. And just remember, don't say anything bad about my driving. I have ammo brother.

Welcome to i-fish Lee.

Thanks for the welcome! Zippy is the name of my boat and it comes from the call letters Or. 810 ZP. I got her last year in February when Boats cost less because there is snow on them. My unemployed mechanic/carpenter/handyman friend who has been around boats his entire 48 years (born on one I think)went thru it all fore & aft. He really got it dialed in and every time we went out over the CR bar but one we limited out. Probably would not have had to buy it if Catch & Release had been a little more forth coming with his fishing invitations! Last month I kiddingly asked a Canadian guide who had taken us out 22 miles for halibut on a rough tire you out day how far above sea level we were? He kinda looked at me and said" I Dunno know, how tall are you??? Tight Lines, Zippy

I know what ya mean Mel. Dangerous territory to navagate but the fishing can be red hot down there. The Halloween fleet did extremely well there Sunday.
