Default TUNA! cord substitute?

Is there anything available at home supply or industrial stores that will suffice for the real thing? Trying to save myself a trip to Oregon City tomorrow if possible. TIA... Joe

Salmonator, I was thinking the same thing. I checked at Fisherman's at Delta Park today and they didn't have any tuna cord or 200# leader. I'm hoping Sportsmans Warehouse will have the supplies we need.

Sportsmans Warehouse in Salem didn't sound like they had ever HEARD of tuna cord!

I used some white nylon cord that I got at west marine. It catches fish. Needs to be 200 pound test or better and at least 1/8 diameter. Stiffer lay is better than soft for tangles.

You will find that a cordage that meets all these criteria will cost more than tuna cord, almost certainly, so it might be worth the drive anyway.

Guess I might have to make another trip to Astoria this Friday. I went last Friday and found out they were closed for the holiday. Oh well, it was a nice drive.

There is no reason to drive to Astoria. Just call them and order on the phone. They will mail it to you and it costs way less than a tank of gas.

Not sure if he is as versed in tuna, but I talked to Mark at Astoria for halibut supplies. He sent me the correct stuff and it was here overnight.

I found some Decoy line(hunting section) that looks the exact same as Tuna cord. I bought some at Joes, 100' for $3.99. It only comes in black, but it's braided nylon 1/8 diameter.

Between 2 spools of line, 2 bungies and swivels I am into my 2 handlines for under $10.

I will give it a test on Tuesday and report back, but I cannot see the diferance between the Decoy line and the Tuna Cord.
