Lots of Chinook caught out of Newport today. I didn't figure out the bite (or the spot) until it was a little late, but did manage a 38" and 31" Chinook for the boat. Guessing the 38" at about 32 lbs. - pegged my 29 lb scale.

Big one hit a sparkley white hoochie at 50 ft on the downrigger - 250' of water west and a bit north. Then nothing for a long time till we switched to whole herring (with RSK). Next one was at 100' on the downrigger (after the sun came out), then nothing till we went to 150' and got bit but missed twice.

Lots of chatter on the radio about all the 15/20/25/30 lb Kings going into fish boxes all over the place. My brother-in-law had 2 35"ers, one 28"er, and one 28" coho for the boat. I could not find a coho for nothing.

Apparantly lots of Chinook mixed with Coho right now. However the fish are out further in 250' of water, about 12 miles lets say. Later, the action should be concentrated at the RockPile - 16 miles.
